Before the twenty-seventh year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (190 1), Fanchang County officially established academies and private schools. In the thirty-second year of Guangxu (1906), a new type of higher primary school hall was built. Since the Republic of China, county-run, district-run, ethnic-run and private primary schools have appeared constantly. In 18 (1929), there were 30 public and private primary schools in the county. After nearly ten years, although compulsory education has been implemented, primary education is still lingering. During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, only all primary education was maintained. Weibaoxing Primary School and John Wan No.2 Middle School have achieved remarkable results. After War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, the county government continued to carry out the "integration of politics and religion", and township (town) and Bao primary schools were developed, and county junior high schools were also restored. However, due to frequent wars, education is deeply disturbed, resulting in only three classes in junior high school, and the enrollment rate of primary school-age children is only 27%.

By 1986, the county's primary school graduation rate reached 70%; Township primary schools have basically achieved "nothing" (schools have no dangerous buildings, classes have classrooms, and everyone has desks and stools); Secondary education has developed steadily; Early childhood education develops to the countryside, and the number of independent kindergartens increases; Nine townships (towns) basically eliminated illiteracy among young and middle-aged people and held amateur high schools. Adult education such as various vocational and technical schools, correspondence courses, TV universities, and higher education self-study exams has begun to take shape.
