Jiangsu Drama School is located in the southeast corner of Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties. It is a national key secondary vocational school, a four-star secondary vocational school and a high-level demonstration secondary vocational school in Jiangsu Province. It is the main base for cultivating artistic performance talents and cultural management talents in Jiangsu, and it is also the cradle for the growth of traditional drama inheritors of intangible cultural heritage.

The school's predecessor was the Jiangsu Opera Training Course founded by 1956. 1958 established Jiangsu Opera School, 1959 was upgraded to Jiangsu Opera Academy, and 1962 was renamed Jiangsu Opera School. 1969 School merged with Nanjing Art Institute, Music Department and Fine Arts Department of Nanjing Normal University to form Jiangsu Literature and Art School.

197 1 merged with Nanjing Art Institute again. The school's director, drama and beautiful dance majors form the drama department, and other majors form the technical secondary school department. 1977 restored the organizational system of Jiangsu Theatre Academy. In 2003, Jiangsu Culture School and Jiangsu Drama School merged to form a new Jiangsu Drama School.
