Soochow University is located in Suzhou, an ancient city known as "paradise on earth". It is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university and a provincial-level key comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province. Its predecessor was Soochow University, which was founded in 1900.

Suzhou University College of Applied Technology (formerly known as Suzhou University Vocational and Technical College) was established in 1997, and is a secondary college of Suzhou University. The college is mainly at the undergraduate level and is actively exploring the talent training mode at the postgraduate level. The college has set up 16 undergraduate majors with more than 3500 students.

Relying on the advantages of Suzhou University, all the work of the college is under the guidance and supervision of Suzhou University. The basic courses and some specialized courses of each major are held by teachers of relevant colleges of Suzhou University, and the teaching of specialized courses and practical links is mainly held by college teachers. More than two-thirds of the existing teachers in the college have obtained national vocational qualification certificates, and the number of "double-qualified" teachers with practical work experience is 1/3. The college has 1 Institute of Applied Technology Education, including the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Information, the Department of Clothing, the Department of Tourism and the Department of Management. The College has also established more than 50 practice bases in Suzhou Industrial Park and Suzhou High-tech Development Zone. In 2000, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education was designated as the training base for vocational education teachers in Jiangsu Province. In 2004, it was approved by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Labor and Social Security as a national vocational skill appraisal institute.
