Matters needing attention in subgrade filling in winter
Subgrade filling in winter is an important project, but there are also some problems that need attention. This paper will introduce the matters needing attention of subgrade filling in winter to help you carry out construction better.

Select filler

When filling subgrade in winter, unfrozen sand and pebble soil should be preferred as fillers to ensure the filling effect.

Filling principle

When filling, please follow the principle of full width and flat filling of cross section, appropriately reduce the thickness of each layer, generally 20%~30%, and ensure that the maximum loose laying thickness does not exceed 30cm. The degree of compaction shall not be lower than the standard of normal construction, and the soil layer filled on the same day shall be rolled on the same day.

Embankment height

When the height of embankment is close to the bottom of subgrade 1m, please stop filling after compaction to avoid potential safety hazards during filling.

winter construction

At the junction of excavation and filling, the embankment with filling height less than 1m should avoid winter construction. The borrow pit for winter construction should be far away from the foot of the fill slope. If it is necessary to borrow soil from the embankment due to conditions, please ensure that the distance from the inside of the borrow pit to the toe of the fill slope is at least 1.5 times of the normal construction berm distance.

♂? Building standard

Embankment filling completed in winter shall be over-filled and compacted on each layer and side according to the design and relevant regulations. After winter, the slope shall be renovated, redundant parts shall be removed, and the slope shall be compacted to ensure the construction standard.
