Shenzhen polytechnic is a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning run by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government. It is a national model higher vocational college, a high-level vocational college with China characteristics and professional construction plan (first grade) of the Ministry of Education, a national high-quality vocational college, and a national demonstration college for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

The UNESCO Global Liaison Center for International Vocational Education, the national first-class vocational college construction unit, the national university practice education innovation and entrepreneurship base, and the Guangdong first-class vocational college construction unit are the first batch of vocational colleges to be qualified to recruit overseas students, and also the first batch of vocational colleges to be allowed to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan independently.

Shenzhen polytechnic, founded in 1993, is one of the earliest independent higher vocational and technical education institutions in China. In 2000 and 2004, the former Shenzhen Vocational and Technical School and Shenzhen Health School were merged into shenzhen polytechnic respectively.
