On May 26th, Wang, director of the Third Bureau of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, announced at Nankai University that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council had appointed Rao, a 55-year-old academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the president of Nankai University, and Hou, the former president, no longer held this position because of his age. This decision was announced at the meeting of cadres and teachers of Nankai University held in the provincial building of Nankai University.

Rao He Zi is a molecular biophysicist and structural biologist. 1950 was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu province in September. 1977 graduated from the university of science and technology of China, 1982 received a master's degree from the graduate school of China academy of sciences, and 1989 received a doctorate from the university of Melbourne. After returning to China, he served as Director of Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of State Key Laboratory of Biomacromolecules and Professor Tsinghua University. In 2003, he was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences, and in 2004, he was elected as an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences.

Minister of Education Zhou Ji, Deputy Secretary of Tianjin Municipal Committee Xing Yuanmin, Hou and Rao attended the meeting and made speeches. Some party and government leaders in Tianjin and relevant responsible comrades of the Central Organization Department, the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Academy of Sciences also attended the meeting.
