At the foot of Jiming Mountain on the north bank of Yanghe River in the northwest of Huailai County, there is an ancient city called Ji Ming Post Station. It is 40km away from Beijing/KLOC-0, and beijing-baotou railway and Zhangjing highways (National Highway 1 10) pass through the city. This ancient town of Fangcheng was once a large-scale post station in the history of ancient post offices in China. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it played an extremely important role in China's military, politics, economy and transportation. Its special strategic position makes it a unique post station. It is the largest and most well-preserved ancient post station in China today, and is listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit. 1In August, 1996, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued a set of two commemorative stamps of "Ancient Post Station" to commemorate the establishment of China Post 100 anniversary, one of which was Ji Ming Post.
Ji Ming Post was built in Yuan Dynasty. In A.D. 12 19, Genghis Khan led his troops to the west, opened a post road on the road to the western regions, and set up the "Red Post Station". By the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1420), Ji Ming Post had been expanded into the first stop for Xuanhua Mansion to enter Beijing, including post office, postal warehouse, general affairs department, mansion, horse number and other buildings, as well as theaters and temples.
In the eighth year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1472), an earth wall was built at Ji Ming Railway Station, and in the fourth year of Qin Long (A.D. 1570), a brick city was built. The circumference of the city is 2330m, and the height of the city wall is12m. There are two gates in the south of the east and west walls, and the doorways are "Jiming Hill" and "Bullfighting with Gas" respectively. A two-story overpass was built on the portal, and a battle platform was built on the wall. Jade Emperor Pavilion is built in the middle of the north wall, and Shouxing Pavilion is built in the middle of the south wall. The two attics echo each other in the distance. The East-West Road at the gate of the city is the passage for post horses to enter, and the "Namkung Do" in the south of the city is the trunk road for post-couriers. As you can imagine, at that time, the bell rang every day, the flying dust was rolling, and the couriers wearing postal clothes and "woodcut signs" hung around their waists were passing by by car, and they were all around the clock, which was very lively.
In the third year of Qing Qianlong (AD 1738), in order to strengthen the defense of Yicheng, the city wall was completely repaired and a Kuixing Pavilion was built on the wall of the southeast corner of the city. In order to prevent the invasion of mountain torrents, a city dam was built in the east of the city.
The development of postal services has brought opportunities to the construction of Ji Ming Post, with prosperous economy and culture, numerous merchants, splendid temples and magnificent buildings. Every year, from April 13 to 19 of the lunar calendar, there are street vendors singing temple fairs and people buzzing with excitement. It was not until 19 13 that the Beiyang government announced that "the postal service was cut off" that the Ji Ming Post Station of the ancient post station completed its historical task.
Nowadays, from the perspective of tourism and cultural relics, Ji Ming Post, a well-preserved ancient city, still retains its original features and features, which is of great historical value. Its walls, except the middle part of the west wall, stand upright and tidy, angular and not crooked. Its gate, arch towering, wide door wide open, iron plate and nails embedded in the door are still firmly nailed to the door. Many Buddhist and Taoist temples and other buildings in this city are still well preserved. "Guan Gong Courtyard" is a Ming Dynasty building, which was specially used for dining and accommodation of officials and civil servants in the past. This courtyard house with three entrances is exquisitely made. Each wooden nail is engraved with different images such as piano, chess, book, painting, lotus, bat, cicada, etc. It is lifelike, ingenious and interesting, and embodies the superb skills of ancient craftsmen in China.
In the 26th year of Guangxu (A.D. 1900), Eight-Nation Alliance occupied Beijing. When Empress Dowager Cixi fled to the west in panic, she stopped at Jiming Post, and the ancient buildings and sites that she stayed at now still exist.
In recent years, Ji Ming Post Station, an ancient post station, has been greatly favored by the film and television industry. Film producers such as CCTV, Beijing, Bayi, Guangxi, Tianjin and Hong Kong all came here to choose a site, and Ji Ming Post became a film city.
