On July 9, 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Jinggangshan Normal College, Jinggangshan Medical College and Jinggangshan Vocational and Technical College were merged to form Jinggangshan College and Jinggangshan University was established at the same time. On May 18, 2004, the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee announced the leadership of Jinggangshan College. In August and September, 2007, the Ministry of Education and the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government respectively approved the renaming of Jinggangshan College as Jinggangshan University.
