Scientific papers generally do not use footnotes, but use references. Footnotes are generally concise notes.

However, there are many footnotes in liberal arts papers, which can be expressed by "ditto".

The way you marked the references is wrong. You should write "[1] Mao Mu, London Human Bond: William Heineman Limited, 1944." In the bibliography, and only use [1] to quote this paper.
