Commonly used medium carbon quenched and tempered structural steel. The cold plasticity of this steel is general, the annealing normalization is slightly better than the quenching and tempering, and it has higher strength and better machinability. After proper heat treatment, certain toughness, plasticity and wear resistance can be obtained, and the material source is convenient. Suitable for hydrogen welding and argon arc welding, not for gas welding. Preheating before welding and stress relief annealing after welding.
Normalization can improve the cutting performance of the blank with hardness less than 160HBS. After quenching and tempering, the comprehensive mechanical properties of this steel are better than other medium carbon structural steels, but the hardenability is lower. The critical diameter of water quenching is 12~ 17mm, and it is easy to crack during water quenching. When the diameter is more than 80mm, its mechanical properties are similar after quenching and tempering or normalizing. Small and medium-sized die parts can obtain higher strength and toughness after quenching and tempering, while large parts should be normalized, so this steel is usually used in quenching and tempering or normalizing state.
