Advantages: Using WORD to automatically generate the table of contents according to the chapters of the article is not only fast, but also convenient for reading and searching the table of contents. Just hold down Ctrl and click a chapter in the table of contents to jump directly to the page. More importantly, it is convenient for later revision, because the finished article will inevitably be revised, added or deleted many times. If you label the table of contents by hand, it will be a headache to change the contents in the middle and the page numbers at the back. The table of contents that should be generated automatically, you can modify the content of the article at will, and finally update the table of contents to re-correspond the table of contents to the corresponding page number.

Steps: (The following contents are operated in WORD2003. Other versions of WORD are slightly different, but they are all similar. )

1. Select [Style and Format] in [Format].

2. The column "Style Format" appears on the right, mainly using the titles 1, 2 and 3. Title 1, title 2 and title 3 are applied to the titles of all chapters in the main text respectively. For example, we need to use the title 1 to define "Chapter 1 Introduction to Refrigeration". And "1. 1 development history of refrigeration technology" is defined by heading 2. If there is 1. 1. 1 ×××, it is defined by heading 3.

3. Of course, the attributes of title 1, title 2 and title 3 (such as font size, center, bold, etc. ) you can modify it yourself. Modification method: right-click "Title 1" and select "Modify" to open a menu of modification, which you can modify according to your own requirements.

4. Don't use the title 1, 2, 3 to define each chapter in the text. It is very convenient to define, just point the cursor to "Chapter 1 Introduction to Refrigeration" and click the title 1 on the right with the left mouse button. Similarly, define1.1with headings 2 and 3; 1. 1. 1; By analogy, the second and third chapters are also defined in this way until the end of the full text.

When everything is defined, we can generate the directory. Move the cursor to the blank position where you want to insert the directory at the beginning of the article, and select [Insert]-[Reference]-[Index and Directory].

6. Select the second tab [Contents], and then click OK in the lower right corner. It doesn't matter.

7. When you modify the content of the article again, you need to update the table of contents by right-clicking the table of contents area and selecting [Update Field].

8. After selecting [Update Domain], the box shown above will appear. Select the second "Update entire directory" button to confirm. It doesn't matter.

In the process of my actual operation of this directory generation system, I found some points that need attention, and I don't rule out a faster method. These points were discovered by accident, which may be a bit silly. Everyone knows, but for your reference:

The templates of 1. title 1 and title 2 are different from the requirements of our paper, but they can be changed, especially the paragraph spacing in the middle column and other formats that can be changed. I didn't know when I first got it, but I still think this system is useless.

2. The generated catalog can change the position of the first letter through the top ruler (I don't know what the major should say), and the catalogs in our school are all aligned, so it can be solved.

3. If you copy the catalogue separately, it will be deformed when printed! This is crucial! Therefore, the generated directory must be with the original document, which involves the problem of how not to paginate the directory, that is, not to paginate from the home page. Baidu is a bit confusing. Let me talk about my own actual operation.

A. the page number starts from the second page.

Insert-Page Number-Format-Do not choose to continue to the previous page-Start page number is set to 0.

Check File-Page Setup-Layout-Different First Page-so that the actual second page will be numbered 1.

B. The page number starts from any page.

If you want to compile page numbers from the actual third page, please move the cursor to the end of the second page and insert-Delimiter-section break Type-Next Page.

View-Header and Footer-Adjust the cursor to the third page, which is the page where you want to start numbering-Adjust the Link to Previous button on the header and footer toolbar to unchecked.

Insert-Page number-Format-Do not select previous page-Start page number is set to 1.

After the advice of some experts, I found that this method can meet my requirements. I must have met a supernatural phenomenon yesterday.

Of course, you can also make a catalog by hand, but the typesetting is not so beautiful, because the characters occupy different places and the typesetting is not neat. If you make your own table of contents, you can divide the table of contents and the text into two documents, thus solving the problem of inserting the page number of graduation thesis.

Everyone knows how to insert page numbers, but the page numbers of the preface, abstract and body of a paper or design should be compiled separately, not the table of contents. The general preface and abstract are numbered in Roman numerals, and the text is numbered in Arabic numerals. In addition, the separator between table of contents, preface, abstract and text is section break, and section break is divided into sections. Select Insert-Page Number-Format, select the required number format in the number format, and select the starting page number in the page number layout instead of continuing the previous section. If you are not satisfied with the page number format, double-click each page number to open the header and footer toolbar.

Margins, headers and footers are also set by themselves in this process.
