His content is mainly preaching and satire, and his forms are mostly heroic couplets, but he lacks deep feelings. John bunyan is a representative writer of English neoclassicism and Alexander Pope's neoclassicism poetry, and his masterpiece Pilgrim's Progress. He imitates Roman poets, and his poetic style is exquisite and handsome, with sermons and satires as the main content and heroic couplets as the form, but he lacks deep feelings. He published his essay "Essays on Criticism", which has since established his position in the poetry circle. The following year, he published The Rape of Lock, a wonderful satirical epic. Thomas gray thomas gray's masterpiece Elegy Written in the Yard of a Country Church, English romantic literature came into being at the end of 18, and the first half of 19 was a prosperous period. The pioneers of romantic literature are1poets robert burns and william blake in the middle and late 8th century. Burns draws nutrition from Scottish folk songs. His Scottish Dialcet poems are good at lyricism and satire, and the language is popular. Blake's Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience look forward to an ideal social order, which is fresh and original. However, there are two opposing schools of romanticism, namely, positive romanticism and negative romanticism. Positive romanticism is the trend of progress, dare to face up to reality and criticize the darkness of society. It guides people to look forward, negative romanticism is a reactionary countercurrent, adopts a negative evasive attitude, opposes the status quo and nostalgia, and guides people to look back. The first real masters of English romanticism were three poets called "lake poets", who were also representatives of negative romanticism. Poets william wordsworth (1770- 1850), samuel taylor coleridge (1772- 1834) and robert southey (1774-65434). Wordsworth is the most accomplished poet among the lake poets. He and Coleridge, another poet of "lake poets", published A Collection of Lyric Songs, which became the cornerstone of English romantic literature. Emerging poets pushed English romantic literature to a climax, with Byron, Shelley and Katz as the representative poets. They are active romantics. Different from Huxiang poets, their works have more fighting consciousness and political inclination. Shelley wrote a lot of poems and plays, such as The Chyi Chin Family, ode to the west wind, Ode to a Lark, Ode to Freedom and a famous paper, Poetry Debate. Prometheus Boundless is Shelley's masterpiece.
