Brief introduction of Liu Songnian
Liu Songnian (about1131-kloc-0/218), a painter in the Southern Song Dynasty, was a native of Tangxi Town, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. Liu Songnian and Liu Guinian lived in Qingbo Gate of Qiantang with their father, and their household registration name was Liu Qingbo. Because Qingbo Gate is also called Nanmi Gate, it was nicknamed "Secret Gate Liu" in the Song Dynasty.
Influenced by Li Tang, Liu Songnian is a landscape figure, and his painting style is exquisite in Mo Miao, turning vigor into elegance, green ink and wash, and gorgeous and elegant colors. He often paints the West Lake and writes about its lush forests and beautiful scenery, which is called "small landscape" because of its many themes.
Life of Liu Songnian
Liu Songnian (about1131-18),No. Qingbo, was a court painter from Song Xiaozong, Song Guangzong and Song Ningzong in the Southern Song Dynasty, and was a native of Tangxi Town, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province.
Grandfather Liu Shiguan Cheng Zhonglang died in May of the 25th year of Shaoxing (1 155), and his father Liu Keqin was a general. In his early years, he lived in Lutian Temple in Beishan, Jinhua City with his father Liu Yin, and formed Lutian Academy. Lutian Temple is the birthplace of Wuzhou School, where Zhu, Zhu and Zhu once gave lectures and had many contacts with scholars and celebrities. Liu Songnian was deeply impressed by this since he was a child.
Liu Songnian's painting and calligraphy benefited from the enlightenment of his family. His reputation as a teacher is well known as a "masterpiece" in the painting academy.
Li Tang is a painter and Mo Miao is an excellent painter. The style of landscape painting is inherited from Dong Yuan and Ju Ran. It is beautiful and rigorous, colorful and elegant. In terms of technique, Liu Songnian changed Li Tang's "axe chop" into "scraping iron chop", which is a beautiful scenery of the West Lake. He took pains to draw a map of the temporary bridge alliance, hoping that the rulers would follow the example of Emperor Taizong and defeat the powerful Turks, instead of following Tang Gaozu's policy of escape and surrender. He also painted Four Generals of Zhongxing to commend the great achievements of national heroes such as Yue Fei and Han Shizhong. Later generations called him, Li Tang, Ma Yuan and Xia Gui "the four outstanding men of the Southern Song Dynasty".
Liu Songnian's works
"Four Scenery Scenery Maps" and "Goddess Flower Offering Maps" are now in the Palace Museum; Cayce's "Axis of Arhats" was made in three years (1207) and Jiading in three years (12 10). It is now in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. "Snow Mountain Tourism Map" is collected in Sichuan Provincial Museum; Four Generals of Zhongxing was published by him and kept in the National Museum of China.
