It is a long martial arts novel created by Hong Kong writer Jin Yong. This novel was written from 1969 to 1972, and the background was set in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It tells the story of Wei Xiaobao growing up in a brothel in Yangzhou. Without martial arts skills, he ventured into various gangs in the Jianghu and went on an expedition to Yunnan and Russia on the orders of the emperor's courtiers. It created a small image completely different from the traditional chivalrous man, and used this image to satirize some hypocritical hypocrites and pedants.

Plot outline

Wei Xiaobao, the hero, is the son of Wei Chunhua, a prostitute in Yangzhou. He grew up in a brothel, listened to opera since childhood, and worshipped the heroes in opera very much. In order to be a hero, he saved the fallen Jianghu hero Mao with instant courage. To thank him for his help, Mao took him to Beijing, the capital, because he kept pestering him. In Beijing, Wei Xiaobao was robbed into the palace by two eunuchs, an old man and a young man. He used a trick to blind the old eunuch doctor Hai and killed the little eunuch's son. From then on, he pretended to be false eunuch in the palace.

One day, when Wei Xiaobao came back from gambling, he met a well-dressed young man who called himself Little Zi Xuan and was practicing martial arts. He shook hands with him. This young man is Emperor Kangxi Michelle Ye. Ao Bai, the minister of life, was jealous of young Kangxi's martial arts and contribution to Gao Zhen. In order to get rid of Ao Bai, Kangxi cleverly designed a plan to let Wei Xiaobao lead a group of little eunuchs to capture and kill Ao Bai alive in the name of wrestling. Wei Xiaobao wisely killed the traitor Ao Bai. Of course, the Qing emperor was fascinated, and the anti-Qing gang organized the Heaven and Earth Society to have green eyes. Within a day, 13-year-old Wei Xiaobao became a close disciple of Chen Jinnan, the chief helmsman of the Heaven and Earth Society, and a master of incense in Aoki Hall, a high-rise building of the Heaven and Earth Society. Chen Jinnan ordered Wei Xiaobao to secretly return to the palace.

On one occasion, he revealed the secret that the Empress Dowager colluded with the evil Dragon Sect, and got the news from her that Kangxi's father Shunzhi became a monk in Wutai Mountain. In order to prevent the Empress Dowager from hurting little Zi Xuan, he told Kangxi about it together with the fact that he was false eunuch. When Kangxi heard that his father was still alive, he was pleasantly surprised and immediately sent Wei Xiaobao to visit Wutai Mountain. By chance of a banker, Wei Xiaobao met Shuang'er, his lifelong confidant. Later, I went to Liang Qing Temple in Wutai Mountain to visit the old emperor Shunzhi, but on my way back, I was robbed by the Shenlong gang to Liaodong Snake Island. When there was a conflict between the Shenlong Sect in Wei Xiaobao, Snake Island, Hong Antong, the leader of Shenlong Sect, was confused by his flattery and became the white dragon messenger of Shenlong Sect, which held a high position in Shenlong Sect.

After Wei Xiaobao returned to Beijing, he reported to Kangxi that Shunzhi became a monk. He hoped the emperor would give him four questions, but after praising him, Kangxi ordered him to become a monk in Shaolin Temple. Wei Xiaobao, a teenager, became a "Huiming Zen Master" with the abbot of Shaolin Temple in his 80s. Monks are bored in the temple, ready to make trouble. He drank and whored, repeatedly broke the precepts, and quietly messed up a thousand-year-old temple and Buddhism. Wu Sangui, the Queen Mother of the West, is working hard in Yunnan, and her influence is growing. Before he started his army, Kangxi decided to marry his sister Princess Channing to Wu Sangui's son Wu Xiongying to paralyze Wu Sangui. Just like when Wei Xiaobao became a monk, he became a "marriage messenger" in Kangxi's missionary work. Wei Xiaobao led a motorcade to Princess Channing and they met. I was ambiguous before I arrived in Yunnan, and I became a doctor at the wedding ceremony. In Kunming, she refused to marry Wu because of her passionate feelings. Wu was castrated as soon as his wildness broke out. Seeing an accident, I had to take Wu and back to Beijing. Soon, Wei Xiaobao was ordered to crack down on the Shenlong faction that colluded with Wu Sangui and Russia. He led the amphibious troops to Liaodong, and before she reached Snake Island, he became a prisoner of Hong Antong. Wei Xiaobao is in danger.

Wei Xiaobao and Shuang'er were desperate. Journey to the West came to Luding Mountain and strayed into Luo Cha Military Camp. Fearing the dragon religion lurking outside the camp, Wei Xiaobao deceived Princess Sophia of Loca who was visiting here and went to Loca with her. Sophia's return to Moscow coincided with the death of Tsar Ricardo Roberto Barreto da Rocha. Wei Xiaobao is best at fishing in troubled waters. With the strategy of "bringing peace and stability to the country" learned from opera, she helped Sophia launch a successful coup. After Sophia became Regent, due to her active planning, Wei Xiaobao was made Earl of the Far East. Thinking of my old country, I soon returned to Beijing under the pretext of Luo Cha. The Qing Dynasty signed a peace treaty with the envoys of Luo Cha, which eliminated Luo Cha's sufferings. Wei Xiaobao was awarded the title of first-class brave by Emperor Kangxi's decree because of his thoughtfulness and outstanding achievements.

Wu Sangui's rebellion is imminent. In order to stabilize the world and appease the people, Kangxi ordered Wei Xiaobao to go to Yangzhou to build a martyrs' shrine for Shi Kefa. After returning home, Wei Xiaobao read the imperial edict in Yangzhou, and then sneaked into Lichunge to visit his mother. I didn't expect to be surrounded by Jianghu people in the brothel. With one or two tricks, he charmed a bunch of beautiful women with ecstasy and took away six beautiful women-Master Hong's wife, Mu Jianbing, Yi, Chen Yuanyuan's daughters Ake, Wang Wu and himself. When Wei Xiaobao was lovely, Wu Sangui rebelled in Yunnan, and Bao Xiao was forced to return to Beijing from Yangzhou. Gui Xinshu and his wife, who are invincible in the Jianghu, are deeply sorry for killing Wu, the mastermind of the Heaven and Earth Society by mistake. So, they discussed with the heroes of the Heaven and Earth Society and decided to lay down their lives to assassinate Kangxi. Wei Xiaobao couldn't bear to see little Zi Xuan killed, so he designed a cover. Gui Xinshu failed to assassinate him, but he exposed the website of the Heaven and Earth Society and Wei Xiaobao's identity. Kangxi heavily surrounded Wei Xiaobao Juefu, where the leaders of the Heaven and Earth Society gathered, and ordered Wei Xiaobao to atone. Wei Xiaobao could not bear to hurt Master Chen Jinnan and the brothers of the Heaven and Earth Society, and saved them all. He fled Beijing because of crime.

Wei Xiaobao fled to the "take-all Island" not far from Snake Island, and lived with seven wives, including Shuang'er, for several years. The youth friendship between Kangxi and Wei Xiaobao not only didn't send troops to kill him, but gave him preferential treatment. Luo Cha's invasion and infiltration into the East has attracted the attention of Kangxi. The victory of pacifying the southwest and recovering Taiwan Province Province made him determined to fight in Luo Cha and recover lost territory. Wei Xiaobao has been to Moscow, is proficient in Luo Cha, and married the Regent Queen of Luo Cha naked. Kangxi recalled him to Peking, awarded him the title of General Lu Fuyuan, and ordered his troops to attack Luo Cha people. Seeing that "Little Zi Xuan" Wei Xiaobao was no longer embarrassed about heaven and earth, he gladly took Shuang'er to Luding Mountain, killed all the way according to Kangxi's established strategy, and won many battles. Finally, the "Peeing Luding Mountain" defeated Luo Cha's army in one fell swoop, forcing Luo Cha's envoys to sit at the negotiating table and sign a peace treaty. Wei Xiaobao won both military and diplomatic victories, returned home in triumph, sealed the shadow of his wife, and his power and glory reached the peak. But soon the trouble began again. Kangxi ordered him to eliminate the anti-Qing Heaven and Earth Society, and his brothers asked him to inherit the legacy of Master Chen Jinnan, take the helm as a master and continue to fight against the Manchu Dynasty. Wei Xiaobao saw that loyalty and righteousness could not be satisfactory to both sides, so he had to abandon his official position and flee. Under the banner of going back to his hometown to see his mother, he returned to Yangzhou with seven wives and went to his mother, Wei Chunhua, to remain anonymous and choose another place to live. Seeing that Wei Xiaobao had not returned to Beijing for a long time, Kangxi sent someone to look around and personally visited Jiangnan. However, there is no news of it. From then on, there was no Wei Xiaobao in the world.

Creation background

From1June, 969 to1September, 972, this novel was serialized for two years and eleven months in Duke of Lushan hosted by Jin Yong.

It is Jin Yong's last martial arts novel. There are two characters in the name of the novel: deer and Ding. Deer fight for the central plains, and Ding wins the championship. So from the name, Duke Lushan is closely related to politics and power struggle. It can be seen that Jin Yong is deeply concerned about politics in this novel. He said: "The novels I wrote in my early days had a strong orthodoxy in the Han Dynasty. In the later period, the concept of equal treatment among all ethnic groups of the Chinese nation became the keynote, which is also the reason why my view of history has improved. This is particularly evident in Luyigong, Ming Pao and Luyigong. " Duke Lushan's book is accompanied by a preface to the third edition of Jin Yong's works. He said: "I think historians in the past said that barbarians invaded China, barbarians invaded China, Mongols and Manchus invaded China, and great mountains and rivers fell to other nationalities. This concept should be changed. I want to write some historical articles saying that ethnic minorities are also members of the Chinese nation. The Northern Wei Dynasty, the Yuan Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty were only a few people in power, so it was far from the fact that China was killed by an alien. The establishment of Qing governance in Manchu Dynasty was just "building villages by turns", which was definitely much better than that in Ming Dynasty. I have developed many such ideas in my novels. I hope to write an academic paper in the future. "
