Gandhi believes that since India is a British territory, Indians should enjoy British national treatment. Therefore, Indians in South Africa have organized themselves to resist the laws of racial discrimination. For example, South African police have the right to enter Indian families at any time to check their identity cards, and children from non-Christian families are not recognized as legitimate children. These are unbearable for Hindus and Muslims. Gandhi organized their peaceful protest and burned the relevant identity cards, so he was arrested.
This incident had an impact in Britain. Although the British ambassador to South Africa didn't want to ask about this matter at that time, since British law didn't say that "Indians are second-class citizens", he had the responsibility to protect these poor people, so he came forward to ask for relevant treatment for Indians. Gandhi fought for the rights of Indians in South Africa because of the judicial process, and also provided him with valuable experience and confidence in confronting the British government in the future. Although the British government has all kinds of evil deeds, as long as the other side has reasonable reasons to ask them to do something, they have the responsibility to listen and try their best to maintain it, because only in this way can the state system operate reasonably.
Although this film mainly describes Gandhi's life, we can also see the power of another empire from the glory of this great man.
This is a very good film, which is worth seeing.
