Li Taijun is a Korean writer born in the early 20th century, who is famous for his short stories and fairy tales. His concise prose describes the living conditions of Koreans at that time, and integrates his feelings for the nation into the characters in his works.
"Mom hasn't come back yet?" It can best show his fairy tale characteristics. The whole Korean narrative is only 100 words. A child who didn't know when his mother would come back repeatedly asked on the platform, "hasn't mother come back yet?" The feeling of endless waiting makes people feel distressed.

After a century, this fairy tale reappeared in the form of a picture book with images, and won the highest honor of the Korean White Elephant Publishing Culture Award, which shows that the output of this book can not be underestimated.
I flew to Seoul with the translator, hoping to let readers know more about the creative concept of this cooperative picture book through interviews with painters.
The interview site was selected in Shouyanshan Room, the former residence of Lee Tae-jun in the North Cave of Seoul. It is said that he lived in seclusion here for more than ten years and wrote many popular short stories, but he couldn't find the fairy tale "Mom hasn't come back yet?" Was it also completed in this house? The former residence now runs a teahouse, so it has a special atmosphere to visit the painter and talk about the fairy tales of the old master.
Q: In the picture book, do you use the old and mottled painting style to reflect the living environment of the mother and her children who had to leave home in the story?

A: Just like the visual processing of movies, the visual emotion presented by picture books is very important. By visualizing the basic story through images, we can grasp some suitable emotion or charm, that is, the role of pictures in picture books.
In the scene where the child is waiting for his mother's tram platform, I used a single-line description to show the child's dry and monotonous feeling. Compared with the world imagined by children, I present it in a rich and gorgeous way.
I'm interested in "mom hasn't come back yet?" The mood of Story Club is not the feeling of the present or the future, but conveyed to readers in the style of old stories, trying to present the emotional lack and waiting mood of children at that time.
Q: "Mom hasn't come back yet? What's the difference between the settings of pictures and words? Is it the original ending that the children have been waiting on the tram platform? Is the painter worried that young readers will increase their inner anxiety after reading, and he adds three spreading images after the text story, so the ending presents a happy ending with the mother leading her children home?
A: I don't think picture books are textbooks. They are not limited to happy endings or bright and positive emotions.
I think what is important in the original text is the child's desire for his mother. I have two meanings for this kind of "missing" plus three pages: one can be regarded as the result of finally seeing my mother come home; The other is the combination of reality and imagination. The child is still waiting for his mother on the tram platform, but he imagines going home with his mother.
The original text is very short and symbolic. It is the most distressing thing for me to grasp the meaning behind each paragraph and how to express that emotion. The last picture in the picture book was completed after such hard thinking and discussion. Although the image is contrary to the ending of the original, it also magnifies and strengthens the content and significance of the original, which is better for the whole story.
Q: What do you think of the illustrated words of different generations? How do you feel?
A: "Mom hasn't come back yet? From the child to the tram platform to wait for his mother. This child who welcomes his mother is the whole story. When I first read this article, I was moved by the tremor, and unlike ordinary fairy tales, the ending of this story is open and feels a little shocked.

Writers and painters will have many generations of differences in the use of words and words. However, the theme of the story is still eager to miss my mother. I use pictures to express the writer's yearning for his mother, regret for reality and hope for the future. In addition, I also use images to strengthen the emotion in the story, hoping that readers will be more helpful when reading this book.
After the interview, I admired Jindong City's use of imagery, which turned the ancient fairy tale into a multi-level story. I am also glad that parents and children in Taiwan Province Province have the opportunity to read this picture book and find their own feelings and recognition.
