Hengyang Zoo covers an area of 3.92 hectares, including monkey mountain, monkey house, animal house, reptile house, waterfowl house, herbivore house, bird house and small fur animal house. The zoo was founded in 195 1, with a history of more than half a century. At first, it only had an area of 1 hectare and organized a team of 8 employees. The facilities are simple and outdated, and there are not many kinds of animals on display. With the development of the city and the continuous improvement of people's material and cultural living standards, the demand for popular science knowledge of wild animals is getting higher and higher, which has attracted the attention of Hengyang municipal government departments. 1976, the state invested more than 600,000 yuan, and in three years, a medium-sized zoo with complete facilities and functions was built in central and southern China. Located in the center of the intersection of Xianfeng Road and tianmashan South Road, far from the city stadium, it is the starting point of bus No.2 in the city. With the development of tourism, Hengyang Zoo was established in 1985. There are more than 50 species of animals, including 9 species of first-class protected animals, namely: Bengal tiger, clouded leopard, sika deer, Chinese alligator, monitor lizard, python and green peacock. There are more than 100 kinds of animals on display in our garden. With a green coverage rate of 50%, it is the largest zoo in Hunan except Changsha, the provincial capital.
