On College Students' Mental Health in Coping with Stress —— A Preliminary Study on College Students' Coping Strategies
With the continuous development of education in China, colleges and universities are also expanding their enrollment, and now college students have become a very large group. Contemporary college students have to face multiple pressures such as study, employment and interpersonal communication, which has a serious impact on their physical and mental health. Therefore, it is of great significance to explore the coping strategies of college students.

In recent years, college students commit suicide from time to time in some colleges and universities, largely because students can't bear their own pressure. They don't know how to deal with and manage stress effectively. Over time, when the pressure is too great for them to bear, they will choose some bad coping styles and even take some extreme measures. This also reminds us that in college education, it is necessary to train college students in stress management, help them understand stress scientifically, guide them to carry out stress early warning, and the most important thing is to train them to adopt positive coping strategies and control stress effectively. Then, what positive and effective countermeasures should college students take to cope with the pressure has become an urgent problem to be solved now.
First, the connotation of stress coping
Stress coping refers to an individual's cognitive and behavioral efforts to reduce, minimize or tolerate the internal and external needs of his interaction with the environment when he thinks that his interaction with the environment may bring him a burden or even exceed his own resources. Is there a lot of pressure? A double-edged sword? . By adopting positive coping strategies, stress will become the driving force to realize self-dreams; If you deal with stress negatively, you may be devastated, your learning efficiency will be greatly reduced, and even your physical and mental health will be seriously affected. Therefore, it is very important to correctly understand the pressure and find the correct coping strategies.
Second, the status quo of college students' stress
University is a major turning point in life. Entering university from high school, new study and living environment and new study goals will bring more or less pressure and new challenges to students. At work, the author will come into contact with students of different grades and majors. Through talking with them, the author found that many students are more or less under various pressures, including employment pressure, study pressure, interpersonal pressure and economic pressure. Employment is a common source of stress. College students are generally anxious about their personal future after graduation, and they are also confused about the prospect of their major. Study pressure is another big pressure that college students face. Middle school is mainly exam-oriented education, and everything is for the college entrance examination. However, universities pay attention to autonomous learning and the cultivation of comprehensive ability, and teachers' teaching methods are constantly being reformed. All these make college students feel uncomfortable. College students come from all corners of the country, their family conditions are very different, and their growth environment is different. Nowadays, college students have many only children, serious egoism and obvious interpersonal difficulties. In recent years, although the state has introduced many policies to help and reward students, rising prices, school supplies and tuition fees still bring economic pressure to many poor students. Free and open university life is easy to breed the wind of comparison, and it will also make some students with financial difficulties feel inferior and even have psychological obstacles.
Third, stress coping strategies.
(A) a correct understanding of stress
Stress? It can be said that every college student is familiar with a word, but not every college student can correctly understand stress. If we can't understand stress correctly, we can't cope with and manage it scientifically. First of all, college students should realize that stress can't be eliminated, and it will accompany people all their lives. When faced with various pressures, some students think about how to eliminate them. Students who have this idea will be disappointed in the end. Because stress can't be eliminated at all, it can be said that stress is an accessory to people's lives. Different people have to bear different pressures, and everyone has to bear different pressures at different stages of life. Secondly, college students should also be aware of the stress. A double-edged sword? Moderate stress will make the behavior effective and energetic. People usually think that stress is harmful, and it is best not to have stress in life. In fact, no pressure is not necessarily a good thing. If there is no pressure, college students will lose motivation, get tired of life and can't play their work efficiency well.
Improve coping skills
To deal with stress, we should first look at its positive and negative functions dialectically. College students should realize that pressure itself is not an enemy, and it will become an enemy if it is not handled well. When dealing with stress, we should constantly give ourselves some psychological hints. For example, when facing the exam, if college students regard the exam as something that will hinder their graduation and pose a certain threat to their studies, then there may be some pressure. However, if college students can treat exams with a normal mind, regard exams as a test of their own knowledge, and see what shortcomings they need to continue to refuel in their future studies, then college students will certainly be able to treat exams normally without causing certain psychological pressure and burden, and may even do so. Secondly, college students should manage their time effectively, make plans and arrange their study and life reasonably. The pressure of college students is often because they can't complete more tasks in a short time. Therefore, in the face of pressure, we should choose positive plans and actions, so as to directly solve the problem and eliminate the source of pressure. For example, in the face of employment pressure, college students should make career plans as soon as possible and manage their time scientifically, so as to continuously improve their abilities and add more chips for employment, and the employment pressure will naturally be alleviated. Many stress events may eventually become the main reason for college students' own stress, not because they can't be solved, but because their ability to solve problems is limited. Therefore, it is particularly important to enhance stress coping skills.
(C) the development of rational thinking
The fundamental way to solve the pressure is to develop rational thinking and cultivate a positive way of thinking. There is a famous ABC theory in psychology: different people will have different emotional experiences when they look at the same thing because everyone has different ways of thinking. With the same half glass of water, one person will regret that there is only half glass of water left, or even complain, and another person may be glad that there is still half glass of water. As we all know, economic pressure is one of the sources of pressure for contemporary college students, especially those with financial difficulties. However, poor students will have completely different performances in the face of economic pressure. Some poor students? Are people poor and ambitious? Taking suffering as a fortune in life can not only study hard, but also earn money by working after school, which can not only solve your living expenses, but also contribute to your family. On the contrary, some students are very negative in the face of economic pressure. They often complain that their parents are not good and have not given themselves a rich family. They also believe that poverty makes it difficult for them to move and hinders their development. Obviously, two different ways of thinking will bring different results. So do many things in life. No matter what problems people face, they may have negative emotions and positive emotions. Therefore, in the face of those pressures, college students can re-evaluate these pressures with positive emotions. That is to say, when facing pressures, college students should consciously give these pressures some positive meanings, or make some ordinary things more energetic in a positive sense, so that college students can get positive emotions from these pressures and ordinary events, thus effectively alleviating their own pain.
(4) Seek social support.
When college students face various pressures, it is very effective to actively seek social help and support. One thing that college students should always remember when facing pressure is that you are not alone. There are many people around you who are willing to help you, and there are many people who have the same experience and problems as you. These people can give you good advice and have the same topic as you. College students should establish their own social support network in their daily study and life, including family, friends, teachers, elders, classmates and some experts. In addition, some social organizations can also be the source of social support for college students, including law. With these social supports, we can effectively meet the actual needs of college students, including security, belonging, self-esteem and care. When college students face various pressures, these social supports can provide them with corresponding help and needs, such as understanding, suggestions, guidance and some financial support, which can effectively alleviate the pressure of college students. If a person has a lot of social resources in his hand, he will be easier to deal with when facing pressure. In addition, when college students are under pressure, they can also seek the help of some professionals. This channel is also the best way to get emotional and information support. For example, when college students are under psychological pressure, they can seek help from psychological counselors in time, and their suggestions and opinions are the most helpful.
(5) A balanced lifestyle
A balanced lifestyle is also an important aspect of stress coping strategies. Studies have found that eating different foods will have different effects on the hormone system of the human body, which in turn will affect people's mood. It can be seen that reasonable eating habits will also help people relieve stress. Usually, you should eat more fruits and vegetables and increase vitamins and minerals in your body, which can improve your stress resistance. In addition, physical exercise can enhance physical fitness, so it can also enhance the ability to resist stress, and people can also release stress through exercise. There are also some good ways to help college students relieve stress, such as watching movies, listening to music, singing, walking, taking a deep breath and so on.
Four. conclusion
When college students face all kinds of pressures in the real society, what they need to do is not to find ways to escape these pressures, but to adopt positive coping strategies to solve these problems, so that college students can grow and develop in adversity. When faced with pressure, college students should learn and exercise how to deal with pressure, so that they can gain something from it and develop better.
