Zhang Keqian, together with other teachers in the research group, instructed graduate students to carry out research on magnetostatic wave devices, guided wave optics and integrated optoelectronics. , and achieved a number of research results, published 33 academic papers. Under his leadership, Tsinghua University, Jilin University and Institute of Semiconductors of Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly established the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Optoelectronics, which laid the foundation for the later research of integrated optoelectronics in Tsinghua University. Zhang Keqian was appointed as the director of the first laboratory. The laboratory has been at the forefront of many national competitions.
Study on chiral dielectric waveguide
In 1990s, a new type of dielectric material or structure-chiral medium or bi-isotropic and bi-anisotropic medium attracted the attention of the scientific community. This material has a spiral molecular structure, and the electromagnetic constitutive equation of the material is coupled, which leads to some unprecedented characteristics in the propagation mode, propagation characteristics and polarization characteristics of electromagnetic waves. Dielectric waveguides made of chiral materials will provide a new choice for the design of microwave or photoelectric devices, and it is possible to develop new devices. Zhang Keqian was keenly aware of the development prospect of this material in the electromagnetic wave field, and instructed many doctoral students and master students to systematically study flat and cylindrical chiral dielectric waveguides, chiral ferrite waveguides and chiral plasma waveguides. After overcoming many difficulties in mathematical analysis and experimental research, a number of innovative achievements have been made, and 20 academic papers have been published in academic journals, among which 14 has been included in Science Index (SCI) and Engineering Index (EI). In recent years, chiral materials and structures have become the research focus in the fields of microwave and light wave.
The main contribution of academic achievements is innovative research achievements in microwave electronics, acoustic microscope, optical guided wave, magnetostatic wave and chiral dielectric waveguide.

Zhang Keqian has been teaching in Tsinghua University for more than 50 years. Since the autumn of 1956, he has been teaching the fundamentals of electric vacuum technology to the first students majoring in electric vacuum in Tsinghua, and has never stopped teaching in class. Before 1978, he taught microwave technology, microwave electronics and electromagnetic field theory, and became one of the teachers who offered microwave series courses earlier in China. During this period, he was also invited by Beijing Electron Tube Factory, Jiuxianqiao Amateur University, Ministry of Electronics 12 Institute to teach microwave courses for young technicians. Among them, the improved course "Selected Theory of Microwave Electronics" taught to young technicians with undergraduate education in 12 Institute became the basis of later postgraduate degree courses.
This course not only pays attention to the rigor of theoretical analysis, but also gives a clear physical concept, and makes a wide and in-depth discussion on the nature and various forms of electromagnetic fields and electromagnetic waves, involving the application of presence and waves in different scientific and technological fields, so that students' knowledge is not limited to narrow research topics, but can be integrated and extended. According to Tsinghua University's teaching evaluation results, students' evaluation of Professor Zhang Keqian's course is "rich in knowledge, focused, clear in thinking, simple in explanation, lively and interesting". Every year, the students' scores reach or approach 90 points, ranking among all the participating teachers in Tsinghua University's theory class.
Zhang Keqian attaches great importance to and is good at experiments. At the beginning of graduation, under the guidance of Professor Meng, we made the 10kW high frequency furnace which was urgently needed in the laboratory, and it has been used in the laboratory for many years. 1956, the establishment of microwave electronics laboratory began. At that time, all kinds of microwave components and instruments needed were not produced in China, and the import channels were not opened, so they could only be manufactured by themselves. Under the guidance of Professor Meng and Professor Chang Yong, referring to the schematic design of foreign literature, we completed the waveguide measuring line, waveguide attenuator, waveguide impedance regulator, klystron socket, crystal detector socket, coaxial-waveguide conversion, matching load, wavelength meter and so on with workshop workers and technicians. Made one by one. Using these microwave components, together with those brought back by Professor Meng from the United States and supported by the ordnance warehouse, a complete microwave waveguide measurement system was formed, and the first batch of microwave experiments were carried out in 1957. In particular, the self-made high-voltage pulse modulator and water-borne power meter have opened pulse magnetron experiments for students, and the peak power has reached tens of kilowatts. At that time, the laboratory was an advanced microwave laboratory in China. Under the initiative of Professor Meng, his teaching and research team formed the tradition of self-made experimental equipment.
In addition to teaching and research, Zhang Keqian also undertook the educational administration of the Department of Electronic Engineering in Tsinghua University and the planning and organization of science and technology education in the national electronic information discipline.
From 1962 to 1979, during his tenure as the director of the teaching and research group of Tsinghua University Radio Department, Zhang Keqian advocated the enterprising scientific spirit, the work style of unity and cooperation and the principle of "modesty, honesty and unity", which made the teaching and research group and research group under his leadership become excellent scientific research groups. In the early 1960s, due to malnutrition, the physical qualities of teachers and students were greatly reduced. Under such difficult conditions, everyone still attaches importance to education, takes science as fun and works tirelessly.
1980- 1985, Zhang Keqian is the deputy director of radio electronics department in Tsinghua University, in charge of scientific research; 1985- 1993, head of the Department of Electronic Engineering (formerly Radio Electronics Department) in Tsinghua University. During this period, he proposed and led the whole department to realize three changes in teaching and scientific research, namely, from discrete component circuits to large-scale integrated circuits and integrated systems, from analog signal processing to digital signal processing, and from low-frequency radio waves to microwaves and light waves, thus promoting the modernization of the department, including the modernization of teaching content, scientific research topics and the modernization of teaching and scientific research experimental means. He quoted Confucius as saying, "Those who are near please, those who are far away come" to inspire all teachers and students, advocate the formation of an academic atmosphere and a relaxed academic environment dedicated to science and innovation, and attract people with lofty ideals at home and abroad to work in the department. In terms of work style, he advocates proceeding from reality. He often tells his colleagues in his department: when doing something, don't think about how to be praised, how to be a model, how to be promoted, but how to do it. During Zhang Keqian's seven years as head of the department, the Department of Electronic Engineering in Tsinghua University has made great progress.
1956, the state formulated the 12 scientific plan, and participated in the planning of the electronics group as the assistant of Professor Meng and Professor Chang Yong. Later, under the leadership of director Hu Hanquan, he participated in the national planning of microwave vacuum electronic devices from 65438 to 65438 to 0966.
198 1~ 1995 Zhang Keqian, who was the head of the electronic group of the expert group of the World Bank University Development Project of the Ministry of Education, made contributions to the modernization of the National Electronics and Information Engineering Laboratory by using the World Bank loan and bidding.
1987- 1989, Zhang Keqian served as the chief scientist in the information technology field of the "863" national high-tech research and development plan, and led three expert groups: intelligent computer, information acquisition and processing, and optoelectronics. After careful investigation, extensive listening to opinions, and adhering to the principles of advancement and fairness, the "863" plan has made a good start in the field of information technology.
1980-2000, Zhang Keqian served as the chairman of the National Textbook Editorial Committee for Physical Electronics and Optoelectronic Technology Specialty of Engineering Electronics (1995 was later changed to the National Teaching Steering Committee for Physical Electronics and Optoelectronic Technology Specialty of Electronic Information), and organized the revision of the national teaching plan and the compilation of the teaching materials for Physical Electronics and Optoelectronic Technology Specialty, which met the teaching needs and made contributions to the development of the National Physical Electronics and Optoelectronic Technology Specialty.
