Let's start with the background:
A university in Shanghai specializes in graduate students, and they are jointly trained in a research institute in Shanghai during their postgraduate studies. This paper is also based on this project. Our school will have two graduation opportunities every year, the first one is usually between October and March, and the second one is between May and June. I applied for the first batch of defense because graduate students have the opportunity to stay in school next semester in the third year, so I think I can graduate early and become a full member.
I still remember that on the day of the exam for the blind, in the college office, other teachers made fun of me and said, Zheng Xiao, your paper won't be blind, will it? If it fails, it will be postponed directly to next year. I didn't think so at the time. I thought my luck was not that bad. As a result, I was really attracted. ...
However, I didn't really panic when I was selected for blind evaluation, because my thesis tutor has changed three times, but the follow-up process is a bit troublesome. The college is also very responsible, and the students who helped us take the blind exam each found two teachers to mark the papers, so I didn't have any extra psychological burden at that time.
Later, because the winter vacation was much earlier than in previous years, the college put the defense in the year after next, and then it was hit by this epidemic. The school has been unable to start school, and the defense has been changed to online. During the period, experts may also be affected by the epidemic, and I participated in the defense before the results of the blind test came out. The chairman of the defense is a researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and I didn't make any major changes to my thesis, so I passed the defense smoothly.
I still remember that I was a little happy when the chairman of the defense announced the proposal to award a master's degree in engineering. Although the paper has made great contributions to the scientific community, it is still a summary of three years' work.
But what I didn't expect was that in mid-March, the teacher of the Academic Affairs Office sent me a WeChat, saying that I failed the blind exam and was going out to play at night. When I received the news, I thought the teacher was teasing me and opened the educational administration system with some doubts. I found that I really failed, 58 points, and it is not recommended to reply.
At that time, the whole people were at a loss, opened their opinions and found that they had no reference value at all. They even suspect that the experts have not read the whole article at all. I called my tutor with shaking hands, and my tutor was also confused. I said that your thesis is a project in an enterprise, mainly to solve the actual production problems of the enterprise. There may be a little less innovation, but how to hang it? ! I have read the opinions of experts. It's all nonsense.
Don't worry, I'll go to the dean later and ask him how to deal with it. If the graduate school doesn't allow me to appeal, I'll go to court with them. You can also write a rebuttal letter against the opinions put forward by that expert, find out all his opinions from your paper and refute them one by one, with a strong tone. In addition, you can call your off-campus tutor (corporate tutor during joint training) to see what he thinks.
After talking to my tutor on the phone, I feel a little better knowing that my tutor supports me so much. My master tutor can be said to be a very good teacher. He has no shelf, and he is also a teacher and friend. Every time he goes out to eat with us, he says he doesn't drink, but he often drinks too much. Ha ha ha ha ha. ) So I set out to write a rebuttal letter. In the process of writing the letter, I have been secretly cursing the expert (dog head). How can there be such irresponsible people in the blind trial system of the Ministry of Education?
When I went to the college the next day, my tutor grabbed the dean in the college early in the morning and complained that if I knew that the expert was going to kill him (hahaha), he always comforted me and told me to prepare the materials for the complaint, saying that if I didn't appeal, I would have to appeal and go to court. Anyway, I've lost face, so I might as well make a scene.
Later, I learned that the appeal process in our school is like this:
First, you need the signatures of three off-campus experts, and then you can go to the graduate school to submit your paper for the second review through the voting of the academic Subcommittee of the college. But this time you have to give it to two experts, and both of them can be considered graduates.
At that time, the college was going to hold a sub-committee on Friday. I received a blind review opinion on Wednesday, and the time was tight. I had the cheek to call my off-campus tutor and asked him if he could find three industry experts to review the paper and then sign the opinion.
There is also a reluctant invitation, because all the academicians of the Academy of Engineering (that is, the one who compiled Principles of Chemical Engineering) participated in this project. If he can get his opinion, he will certainly pass the appeal. The off-campus tutor was also very frank and agreed at that time. Three expert opinions were given to me the next day, but the signature of the academician has not been replied. In fact, there was no hope at that time. After all, academicians are busy.
On the day of the appeal, the tutor took a pile of materials to report to the academic Subcommittee of the college. Perhaps because the tutor has always had a good reputation in the college, the college agreed to appeal. Fate sometimes likes to play tricks on people. As soon as the Subcommittee was over, the academicians sent me his opinions. Although it didn't come in handy, it gave me great encouragement, because no experts can refuse articles that academicians think are all right. The academician is over 80 years old and has only met several times at the progress meeting of the project. He has no academic level, clear thinking, and is kind, and his suggestions to me are also very pertinent. I hope the old man will live a long and healthy life.
Later, when I went to graduate school for the second time, my tutor began to complain (hahaha), saying that I must avoid this so-called expert, and then changed the key words for submission. At this point, all the appeal process is over, followed by a long and painful wait.
When I returned to the college, the dean talked to me and euphemistically said that if I couldn't graduate, I couldn't stay in school. Let me go back and wait for the results, and prepare to graduate next year, because the probability of being sent to the second instance by two experts is very small.
I was sad that night and felt that I had nothing. Looking back on the three years of graduate school, I spent a lot of time at work, especially during the period of graduate school and joint training. Get up at five o'clock in the morning and take a two-hour shuttle bus to the graduate school, and then take a two-hour shuttle bus back to the dormitory at night. I am very tired every day. I often travel to other places and collect data in the workshop, but I can't graduate in the end. At the age of three, some students may have made achievements in their work and felt miserable. The originally planned road was suddenly interrupted, and they even dared not tell their families to postpone it. A sleepless night.
Because the school didn't start at that time, I had to submit an application to enter the school, so I was the only one in the dormitory. I can't imagine what to do in the future. Later, I got up the courage to call home. Hearing this, my parents didn't blame me as I thought. They always told me that it doesn't matter, comforting me: you are younger than your peers anyway. It doesn't matter if it is delayed for a year. Don't have a psychological burden. Don't think about it for a while. There are many unpleasant things in life. What are you? I am very grateful to my parents. No matter what I do, they always spare no effort to support me.
During that time, my roommates also encouraged me in the WeChat group, and they made me feel much better. Especially when we met on a road trip, thanks to Brother Guang in the dormitory, who drove hundreds of kilometers by himself. In order to get several people in the dormitory together, he took us to Shandong to eat local specialties and climb mountains and play with water. I was lucky enough to meet three interesting people as roommates.
It has been three weeks since I came back from Shandong, and my grades have basically come out. I'm scared every day. I get nervous when there is news on WeChat. Although I am fully prepared psychologically, I am still worried about being on tenterhooks all day.
What I think most during this time is what to do afterwards, whether to find a job I want to do first, or to go to the company for an internship, or to prepare for the exam ... Indeed, on Monday of the fourth week, the teacher of the Academic Affairs Office sent me WeChat: Zheng Xiaogong Xi, two experts! After receiving the news, I was relieved and felt that I was on the planned road again. I immediately called my tutor and my family to thank those who encouraged me along the way.
Now I can graduate smoothly, and the college also informed me to go back to work and want to buy lottery tickets. It must be very lucky to meet such an irresponsible blind expert and pass the second level …
Finally, graduates, you must take good care of your graduation thesis. Postponement is no small matter. If you are in my situation, you must appeal. There is still a chance to appeal. You should have confidence in yourself, but I still hope you won't meet it. This is so frustrating.
Thanks to my two mentors, my family and my three roommates.
I wish you all the best and a smooth graduation.
