Claude elwood shannon, born on April 30th, 2006 in Michigan, USA, 19 1936, graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and electronic engineering, and 1940 received a doctorate in mathematics and a master's degree in electronic engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 194 1 year joined the mathematics department of Bell Laboratories and worked until 1972. During this period, he became a visiting professor at MIT from 65438 to 0956 and a tenured professor from 65438 to 0958. Shannon died on February 24th, 2006. It is said that Shannon is a distant relative of the great inventor Edison. Shannon spent most of her time at Bell Labs and MIT. From 1948 to 1949, the Mathematical Principles of Communication and Communication under Noise were published successively. This paper expounds the basic problems of communication, gives the model of communication system, puts forward the mathematical expression of information quantity, and solves a series of basic technical problems such as channel capacity, source statistical characteristics, source coding and channel coding. These two papers are regarded as the basic works of information theory. Shannon is also a blockbuster, known as the "father of information theory".
