For students studying IB diploma courses, in order to obtain IB diploma, four requirements need to be met:
1. Write an extended paper of 4,000 words, provide students with an opportunity to investigate, explore a certain knowledge point in previous courses, and write a paper of 4,000 words, so that students can be familiar with independent research methods, exercise their academic writing ability, and lay a solid foundation for future university study.
Second, complete 150 hours of CAS activities. During the two-year study of IB course, students must complete 150 hours of CAS (abbreviation of creativity, action and service) activities, so that students can not only learn the required cultural courses well, but also carry out innovative activities, care for others and society, and cultivate teamwork spirit, so as to improve their own quality and obtain all-round development in morality, intelligence and physical education.
Third, learn six basic courses. The IB diploma course covers six major course groups, namely, language A (students' mother tongue), language B (second language), personal and social courses, experimental science courses, mathematics and computer science courses and art courses. Most courses are divided into high-level (HL) and standard level (SL), and a few courses only have standard level. Students studying abroad need to choose a course from each course group, of which at least three main courses must be of high grade and three minor courses can be of standard grade. In addition, students must learn their mother tongue and an experimental science course.
Fourth, learning the Theory of Knowledge (theory of knowledge, referred to as? TOK? This interdisciplinary course mainly cultivates students' ability of judgment and comprehensive induction, encourages students to think critically, and enhances students' ability of analysis and expression. The main forms of examination are writing and oral presentation.
There are many ways for international diploma organizations to evaluate students' studies, such as in-school evaluation and unified written examination. Among them, students in six basic courses can get up to 7 points (passing 4 points), 3 points for expanding papers and knowledge theory courses and 45 points for IB diploma courses. Although CAS activities have no scores, they must be completed to finally get IB diploma.
