Many students originally thought playing the piano was boring, but they became interested in music after passing the imperial examination. However, after passing the Royal College Entrance Examination, their learning attitude has obviously changed. Great progress has been made in music appreciation and performance.

As for the difficulty of the imperial examination, people have different opinions. The key depends on whether the candidates have received formal and comprehensive music training for a long time. Among them, the most headache for candidates is listening test and sight-reading. There are many students in China who have passed Grade 8 or even Grade 10. They came to learn the Emperor's listening class from me before the exam, but they panicked and found themselves at a loss. For these students, I can only try my best to teach them some answering skills to cope with the exam. In fact, the best time to train people's listening should be before 13 years old, especially before 6 years old. If we can grasp these golden times, it is not difficult to cultivate good sense of music, rhythm, tonality, multi-voice hearing and fixed pitch hearing. I can only sigh when I see many students who play the piano very well but can't get high marks because they failed in the listening test!

As for sight-reading, I think it is one of the items that the imperial examination restricts candidates from taking the exam. The difficulty of sight-reading is about two or three levels lower than that of candidates, and only 30 seconds of preparation time is not enough for a high-level audition. For example, if you only have level 3, but want to skip level 5, then the link of sight-reading will definitely make it difficult for you to complete. So don't rush for success, it's not too late to lay a good foundation and take the exam again.

Passing Band 8 means that you have passed the technical level exam. But in fact, how high is the level of Grade 8? I don't know, a little high or low. Personally, I think that in the world of music, eight paragraphs are actually just the beginning of real learning. Speaking of playing skills, posture, timbre, music processing, etc. Band 8 is only in a very preliminary exploration, and there are still many skills that need to be corrected by senior teachers.

Second, the diploma examination

If you want to continue to improve your level through the exam after passing Grade 8, you can take a higher level exam, which is what people call the performance level. Speaking of performance level is just a conventional term. In fact, it is more accurate and meaningful to evaluate with three professional diplomas. The Royal Conservatory of Music offers three types of professional diploma examinations: teaching, playing and conducting; There are three levels for each type:

1.DipABRSM's first-class professional diploma, some people call it the junior performance diploma. If you think that the first-level professional diploma is equivalent to the ninth-level examination, it is all wet. Although it is a primary performance, it requires much higher than Grade 8.

2. The second-level professional diploma of 2.LRSM, which some people call the Advanced Performance Diploma or Associate Academician Performance Diploma, is not easy to pass the exam. There may be two foreign examiners present to supervise the grading during the exam.

3. The third-level professional diploma of 3.FRSM, known as the Hanlin Performance Diploma, is the highest level in the current imperial examination and the one with the least admission. Many people who have passed this diploma are already famous local pianists or famous teachers.

I have a profound experience when I take the professional diploma exam, that is, you must have a very comprehensive and thorough understanding of the papers you submit, and you can make a divergent interpretation of every sentence in the papers. For example, when I took the diploma, I played Beethoven's pathetique sonata, and the examiner asked me what other Beethoven works I played. I replied: I also played the moonlight sonata, the storm, the first sonata, the emperor concerto and so on. He immediately asked me what the key of the first sonata was. How many sonatas and concertos does Beethoven have? ... there are many similar problems caused by one sentence. Moreover, his questions are quick and specific, and there is no room for ambiguity at all, so candidates are required to accumulate rich relevant knowledge.

The defense of the teaching diploma should be fully prepared, because the oral examination of the teaching junior diploma lasts for 50 minutes, and the examiner will not only discuss the problems related to the thesis with the candidates, but also discuss the teaching difficulties of the King 6 track, from marking methods to playing methods, to pedaling methods and teaching methods. Therefore, candidates must not take chances, and must be prepared in a down-to-earth manner. Besides, I want to give you a suggestion. When entering the examination room, bring more music scores, teaching AIDS, even activity photos, prizes for students and other materials that are helpful for you to explain yourself.

In addition, in terms of performance, I think that in the junior performance diploma, the examiner pays more attention to the mastery of style. Therefore, it is best for candidates to choose more works from different periods when choosing music. The use of pedals should also be studied clearly. Different piano structures in different periods have different performances of pedals. Different composers use different pianos at different ages and have different requirements for the use of pedals. In addition, it is best to try playing the piano before the exam, because the general candidates may play less in the concert hall, and sometimes they are not suitable for the acoustic effect of the concert hall.

Third, the music theory examination

In addition to grade examination and professional diploma examination, there is another kind of examination that candidates are very concerned about; That's the music theory exam. The music theory exam is also divided into 1-8 grades, but the most people who take the exam are level 5, because they must pass the level 5 music theory exam to take the exam above level 6. The content of the five-level music theory examination includes scales, chords, melody creation, musical terms and a brief introduction to the ending instruments. Band 8 music theory only needs to apply for the advanced diploma of LRSM teaching, and the examination content is more professional, which integrates the knowledge of composition, harmony, tone sandhi and orchestration. Higher diploma in teaching requires students to be at least 20 years old; Therefore, I don't think it is necessary for young candidates to spend a lot of time learning the music theory content of Grade 6-8 before this; We should still focus on learning to play, because before the age of 20, it is the golden age to cultivate playing skills.

A well-constructed music grading examination provides children with room for progress in the process of music development, and the success of the examination also allows students to gain the happiness of learning music through a sense of accomplishment.
