Studying abroad is not only to adapt to the environment and culture in different places, but more importantly, to take the road of studying abroad in a down-to-earth manner. Although many students studying abroad have entered prestigious schools, they have failed to complete their studies for various reasons and have been dismissed by the school.
Today, Secretary Langer sorted out several situations that might be persuaded to return. I hope my friends will pay attention not to touch the minefield.
1. Cheating in exams/plagiarizing papers
Writing papers or cheating in exams are serious things. Although it is possible to get away with it temporarily. But if it is discovered later, the price is very heavy.
In 2008, 50 international students from China at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom were collectively dropped out of school and repatriated for applying for fraud. Another British student was sentenced to one year in prison for failing his master's thesis and trying to bribe his teacher.
It is best for international students to go abroad without any violation of discipline. If there is any violation of discipline, the school will deal with it according to the severity of the incident. If it is serious, it will be expelled and the students must leave the country.
One of the most important ways to violate school discipline is cheating, which is equivalent to academic dishonesty. This can be divided into many situations, including not indicating the source of the quotation, citing too many times, and having exactly the same answer.
Some situations caused by students' carelessness may be forgiven after explanation, but serious ones will be severely punished. It is not uncommon for students to be recorded for cheating in exams and expelled from schools, thus losing their qualification to study abroad. So I suggest you don't take risks and graduate by yourself.
2. Seriously absent, doing nothing.
British universities have strict requirements for students' attendance and stronger supervision over international students. Many universities will emphasize in student guidance that absenteeism requires leave, and absenteeism without reason will lead to the inability to renew the contract.
Students who really need to be absent from class for special reasons can take the following measures to ensure their attendance:
1. If you are sick, call the school for leave directly. If you are sick for more than 4 days, you need to provide a letter of introduction from the doctor to the school;
2. If there are very important matters (such as embassy or job interview) or urgent personal matters (such as family members being seriously ill or attending family funerals), it is best to obtain the permission of the school counselor or instructor first, and present relevant certificates.
3. Poor academic performance
Poor academic performance means unsatisfactory performance. Generally, when freshmen come abroad, their grades will be affected because they can't adapt to the new environment, can't resist the temptation of the outside world or the language can't keep up with pure English teaching.
In foreign universities, it is often easy to enter, difficult to graduate, and the academic pressure is very great. If students' academic performance is not good enough to meet the minimum requirements of the school, they will generally stay in school for observation, and if they do not improve, they will be dismissed.
This situation is generally caused by students not adapting to study and life abroad or overestimating themselves. This requires students to rationally analyze their actual level when choosing a school, otherwise, if they can't complete their follow-up studies, even if they enter a prestigious school, it will be of little significance.
4. False grades and incomplete documents
Many international students or institutions studying abroad are lucky enough to apply for better schools and falsify students' academic performance and learning experience. The act of forging materials not only failed to achieve the expected results, but also greatly reduced the reputation of international students in China, and also led to the applicant being found in the future and facing severe punishment.
At the same time, there are some easily overlooked documents:
Television licensing: started in the UK 1946 and collected by the British BBC. For those who refuse to pay or claim not to watch TV, the company will also send someone to ask. Once it is found that people who watch TV refuse to pay, the collection company can bring a lawsuit to the court and impose a fine of up to 1000.
Various taxes: local taxes may be unfamiliar to international students. Under normal circumstances, whether you own or rent a house, you must pay the Council tax as long as you are over 18. Full-time students can be exempted from local taxes, but they need to apply for relevant certificates from the school. However, if you attend summer courses or preparatory courses for less than one year, you may still have to pay.
5. Endangering information security
Wechat and Weibo, which you can't live without at ordinary times, may also be the reason for your repatriation. Australian customs officials once found illegal pictures ("Yan Wen" commonly used by WeChat) when checking the mobile phones of students entering China, and deported them. Customs officers found pornographic pictures in his WeChat application; On the same day, a similar incident happened at Sydney Airport, and an international student from China was refused entry.
Australia's punishment for people involved in child pornography is very serious, so once these contents are shared or disseminated, it will be a very serious criminal fact. So be careful when playing with your mobile phone. Don't say something blatantly, and don't send some emoticons indiscriminately to avoid being repatriated.
In fact, the differences in academic and cultural backgrounds are the important reasons for the frustration and loss of international students in China. Here are two simple suggestions for you to learn.
What you really learn is more important than your exam results.
Tony Robbins, a famous American writer and speaker, once said, "Success without satisfaction is failure". Although many students have been successfully admitted to prestigious schools, they don't know what they really want to learn.
Learning what you really want to learn means that the learning process is driven by curiosity, rather than simply pursuing good grades. Therefore, you must seriously think about your preferences before making a decision.
Only if you are curious about learning can you learn more. Achievement is only a natural accessory, otherwise you will put the cart before the horse.
learning method
If you want to achieve your goals and expectations before graduation, a good study method is very important:
1, set personal goals
Starting from the end is the basis of efficient learning. Faced with numerous professional courses and lectures, only by setting long-term goals can we not get lost in complicated courses and activities.
2. Mastering learning strategies includes time management and energy management:
A. Make a detailed timetable and classify the things to be done in order of priority.
B. The core of time management is energy management.
Classes, experiments, work and research, fitness exercises, seminars, social activities and a series of other contents occupy the university life, and grasp the balance between learning, sports, leisure and social activities. Give full play to your potential in unit time, get the greatest results, and keep a clear head at any time. This is the way to start an efficient study life.
Different countries and regions will have many special regulations.
Students must know clearly before going out.
Besides studying hard,
It is also important to obey the law.
I finally left the country,
Study hard,
Seriously enjoy the freedom and good life of studying abroad,
Is the most important thing for you.
