Starting from graduate school. From then on, you have to change from class to writing, and start almost the opposite change. Many graduate students were the stars that everyone admired and looked up to in the first two years of class, but suddenly they found that they were no longer the protagonists. On the contrary, those humble students who don't care to please the professor by carefully reading every page of the bibliography suddenly contribute to the journal and publish it, realizing the transformation from students to professional scholars. In fact, the difference is not complicated, just because of the writing level.
1, writing is a kind of kung fu, which needs to be accumulated over time.
Practice makes perfect, practice makes perfect. Writing is also more rewarding and confident. If you were going to run a marathon a year later, would you wait a few months before suddenly running 26 miles? Of course not. You will keep running every day and gradually increase the amount. Maybe you can practice on a flat road first, and then run slowly on a more difficult road as your level improves. To write a good article, writing more is the only way. You can't expect to wait until a book is published or a brick-thick external review report is written before you start practicing writing.
2. Set output-oriented goals, not input-oriented goals.
The rhetoric of "I will work hard for three hours" is an illusion, and "I will type three pages of double-spaced text" is the real goal. After completing the three-page goal, stop and do something else. Prepare lessons, give lectures, have meetings, anything. If you want to write again in the future, good. If you didn't feel it, then you didn't get nothing today, at least you left some words.
3. Find your inner voice and don't write for publication.
James buchanan is the winner of 1986 Nobel Prize in Economics. One of the questions he will ask when interviewing job seekers is: "Is there anything you have written that will be read in ten years?" What about a hundred years later? "Someone once asked me this question, which frightened me. And this question is also very embarrassing, because most of us don't think so.
What we care about is publishing the paper. Whether what we write is thoughtful or not, and whether it can inspire readers to think, seems to be out of consideration. Paradoxically, if you just want to "publish", you may not publish anything. If you are writing about the topic you are interested in, it is often easier to write.
4. Writing takes time.
Many smart people will find reasons for themselves, and these reasons are lies that deceive themselves. For example, "I write fastest and best before the deadline." Please note: this is completely untrue. No one can perform better under pressure. There is no doubt that you are brilliant. But if you want to elaborate on a difficult topic, what makes you think that generate can make an important contribution by jumping out of thin air in the middle of the night before the meeting?
People who write articles often sit at their desks for hours, thinking about various ideas. They will ask all kinds of questions to others, discuss their views with other insightful people while drinking tea or eating, and think while walking. After having an idea, sit down and write a long paragraph. Don't worry that what you write is not good enough or can't be used immediately. You will have new inspiration when writing articles; You did more than just record your thoughts.
Articles and books that people are still reading decades later are written by authors who sit at their desks and think hard and force themselves to turn profound thoughts into words; Then, they will let these words guide them to generate more inspiration. If you give yourself enough time, writing will be like magic, vividly depicting the ideas that exist in your mind at the moment in another person's mind in a distant time and space.
The sharpness of writing comes from sharpening, not boasting.
Everyone's work is wonderful before it is finished. Moreover, the less literal the fall, the more wonderful it is. We have all met those eloquent and aggressive graduate students or teachers. They hold a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other at a bar or party, which makes people respect each other. They know everything. They will tell you how unusual the work they are going to write will be.
Time flies. What are you writing? After many years, their answer is still a 200-word answer that they have heard many times. This has never changed, because they have never devoted themselves to any real work except bragging. Another situation is that you are trying to write something, and your work is constantly developing and changing. You don't like what you just finished, and you're not sure what will happen next. When someone asks, "What are you writing?" Sometimes, you will be speechless because you don't know how to explain it.
What about the smug guy with beer and cigarettes? He just puts on airs and never writes. His answer was blurted out, which was the result of continuous practice during drinking hundreds of bottles of beer and smoking thousands of cigarettes.
Don't be fooled by the illusion: you are the winner. When you are really writing and working hard with the standards needed for success, you will feel overwhelmed and smelly, and you will torture yourself to exhaustion. If you don't feel this way, it means that you are not strict with yourself.
Step 6 conceive a fascinating puzzle
Describing or imagining your job is the answer to a puzzle. There are many interesting puzzles to choose from, such as:
"A and B started from the same assumption, but finally got the opposite conclusion. What is this? "
"There are three seemingly different problems. But strangely, it is the same problem in essence, but the appearance is different. I'll tell you why. "
"The result of theoretical prediction should be like this, but the reality we see is different. Is the theory wrong, or are there other factors that we have not considered? " Don't be limited by these formulas, but they are very helpful when you present your work to everyone, whether it is the audience of the speech or the readers of the article.
7. Write first, then arrange other things.
Put writing first. I happen to be an early riser, so I started writing early in the morning. After writing, I arrange classes, meetings or do some paperwork. You may be a night owl, or something in between. Anyway, please leave your most efficient time for writing. Don't suddenly think of writing after busy with other things, and don't confuse yourself by saying that you have a lot of time to start writing. Squeeze time to do other things, and writing should be the first priority.
8. You can't ask every idea to be tall.
Many people are frustrated because they can't effectively explain the big topics they are interested in. Besides, they don't write anything. Actually, you might as well start with a small topic. Stick to it, trudge step by step on the road of creation, and slowly you will be pleasantly surprised to find that you have completed a long journey in the process of climbing to the top of the mountain. Only in the process of writing down your own ideas can you make the questions raised in the paper clearer, define the technical terms more accurately and understand the logic of the argument.
9. cross the river by feeling the stones
Your deepest thoughts are often wrong, or at least not perfect. If your subject is profound, it is not easy to accurately grasp the core of the subject and conceive a good puzzle. I always laugh at myself when the newly enrolled graduate students say that they know what they want to study or what topics to write in their graduation thesis. Almost all the best scholars will have great changes because of their research and writing experience. They learn while practicing, and sometimes, realizing that they have made a mistake is their learning gain.
10, good article change.
Ask others to help you read your work in detail. One of the great advantages of university is that we are almost all in the same boat, and we have all experienced the horror of not writing a word in the face of the flashing cursor on the blank page. Exchange reading with classmates or tutors, especially when you are sick, and help others read their own works. You must overcome your fear of criticism and denial.
Nobody's first draft is perfect. The difference between successful scholars and unsuccessful scholars is not necessarily who has a high level of writing, but who can edit and modify it well. If you find writing difficult, it only means that you haven't written enough. It's always easy for me to write many pages. But I can never make a living just by writing, because my writing is not good enough.
However, after learning these skills and practicing hard, I have been able to put my writing skills to use and become a boost to my life and career development.
