Great Expectations is one of the representative works of Charles Dickens. Since its publication, it has attracted the attention of critics. This paper is the first academic attempt to analyze Dickens' Great Expectations with carnival theory. This theory was put forward by Russian scholar Mikhail Bakhtin. In my research on Great Expectations, I discussed and used several key terms of this theory. This novel discusses the carnival laughter, which takes the form of depression-humor, irony and satire. Pip, the hero of Great Expectations, is regarded as the carnival king under the carnival light. Through Pip's coronation and Dacker's possession, Bakhtin expressed the viewpoint of Happy Relativity. Carnival banquet and symbolic fire played a very important role in his coronation and coronation. The characters in this novel are discussed as carnival groups on the basis of grotesque realism. The language of these characters is unique, which is "Billingsgate language" in Bakhtin's terminology. Similarly, this novel is not without the atmosphere of hell carnival. All these indicate that the key aspects of carnival theory are displayed in Great Expectations. This leads me to the conclusion that this is a carnival novel.
