Since 1990s, the research on foreign art education no longer stays at the introduction level, but begins to show a research tendency of comparing the ideological trend, educational content and guiding methods of foreign art education with China, and on the basis of analyzing their respective advantages and limitations, seeking the development path of art education suitable for China's national conditions.
In Comparative Study of Chinese and Western Art Education Thoughts 1992, Yin published a paper entitled "Background and Significance of Art Education" [xxv]. First of all, he discussed the similarities between British educator Herbert Read and China educators Confucius, Wang Guowei and Cai Yuanpei. Then, this paper analyzes and compares Ron Field's and Eisner's thoughts on art education, and on this basis, puts forward the viewpoint of self-sufficiency in art education. This is the result of an earlier and deeper comparative study of Chinese and American art education thoughts. 1993, Hou Ling (Beijing Chongwen Education College) published an article entitled "A Study of DBAE in China" [xxvi] in the Japanese academic magazine Art Education. He thinks there are many similarities between DBAE and China's art education. For example, the purpose of art education is to improve the quality of students. For another example, in the field of art appreciation in China, there are three fields: aesthetics, art criticism and art history, while the fields of painting and technology are similar to DBAE. This is an earlier article introducing the overseas DBAE research in China.
