The Background of Qi Baishi's Seven Children of Longshan
This picture of the Seven Children of Longshan was painted by Qi Baishi at the age of 32 in 1894. It is very large, with a size of 15 square feet. It's Qi Baishi's early landscape painting, and it's still naive. However, Qi Baishi's early landscape paintings are rare and precious. This painting also records an important event in Qi Baishi's youth, that is, when the Longshan Poetry Society was founded, all the members of the Poetry Society chose a site in Wulong Mountain Scenic Resort scenic spot, so it has high historical value.

Since the master lived in Huqin Garden, Qi Baishi gradually got to know more people. In the spring of the twentieth year of Guangxu, Li, who lived in Changtang, invited Qi Baishi to his home to paint his father's portrait, and Qi Baishi settled in the Li family. Coincidentally, Hu Qinyuan's nephew Wang Zhongyan is also a tutor in the Li family, so many good friends of the Li family often get together. Everyone got together to talk about poetry and papers, saying that calligraphy and painting were full of interest in evaluating seal cutting. In summer, after discussion, a poetry club was formally established, and several houses in Dajie Temple, a scenic spot in Wulong Mountain Scenic Resort, were borrowed as the meeting place, so it was named Longshan Poetry Club ... The backbone of the poetry club, besides Qi Baishi and Luo Zhenwu, my brother, Chen Fugen, Tan Ziquan and Hu, one * * is seven people, and people call us seven sons of Longshan. 1894, Qi Baishi and his fellow villagers established the Longshan Poetry Society at Dajie Temple, a scenic spot in Wulong Mountain Scenic Resort, Xiangtan, and were elected as the first president. Qi Baishi has many teachers who study poetry, including poets Hu Qinyuan (27 years old), Wang Xiangqi (37 years old) and poet and writer Fan Zengxiang (40 years old), and they are even more fond of them. He also studied Chen Shaofan's Mencius, 300 Tang poems and 8 ancient Tang and Song poems. 1924 published eight volumes of Poems of Baishi and Poems of Lao Ping, and later published Poems of Baishi. His poems all express his feelings in vernacular poems.
