Yang Wei entered the amateur sports school in Xiantao City, Hubei Province at the age of 5, joined the Hubei team at the age of 10, and was selected for the national team at the age of 16. He is an all-around player in the main team of China men's gymnastics. Floor exercise and rings are his strong points. Yang Wei won the runner-up in men's individual all-around at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
