Font requirements for resumes

As the saying goes, "words are like people", whether written by hand or on a resume, will immediately form your first impression in the minds of resume readers. So what font should you use and choose to be a person who falls in love at first sight?

The selection of resume font should be "clear and intuitive" to facilitate recruiters to read and understand quickly. If the recruitment information does not clearly specify the font and font size of your resume, you can refer to the following suggestions:

It is recommended to choose the word "No.5" for Chinese resumes, and the font is usually Song Ti or regular script. Try not to use fancy artistic words and colorful fonts. In particular, it is forbidden to use distinctive fonts to prevent some special fonts from being found in recruiters' fonts and garbled in resumes.

It is recommended to choose the words "10" and the font "Times New Roman" for English resumes, with clear letters, neat arrangement and easy identification. Don't choose fancy fonts, artistic words and colorful fonts for English resumes.

In addition, the selection of resume font size can be slightly adjusted according to the content typesetting. For example, if the resume content is selected as No.5, most of it is left blank, and it can be adjusted to No.4 to enhance the overall beauty of the layout.

What rules should a good resume follow?

1, font

Bring a resume, as long as there are more than three fonts on it, which will dazzle you directly. If you are engaged in font design and want to put your resume and work together, ignore this.

Too many fonts, the most direct disadvantage is-how so messy. Speaking of this, you will definitely think of the composition and comprehensive literature of the college entrance examination. What these papers and resumes have in common is that people who read them don't really want to read them. Protecting the viewer's fragile eyes = protecting your fragile future.

The text of Chinese resume can be Song style, and the degree of discrimination is mainly achieved by bolding and font size. If you really want others to know that your computer has rich fonts, use regular script. Black, long, straight, thick and beautifully decorated artistic fonts in the text are strongly recommended. If you want to highlight the "name" in the topic, it is no problem to make it black and straight, but be careful not to make it black, or you will be top-heavy, as if you spilled a few drops of ink. In addition, when using boldface, be careful not to stick strokes visually, and simply do not use boldface for words with many strokes. Like my name, many horizontal ones, like pickles, black ones really don't sound good.

There is nothing to say about English resume. Times New Rome is delicious and harmless.

Finally, it should be noted that English characters and numbers will inevitably appear in Chinese resumes. Please be consistent with the font of your English resume. After reading more than a dozen resumes, only one or two people did it. Among those who haven't done it, it's okay to use Arial, but it's terrible to use Song style along Chinese characters. Actually, it's very simple to change. Just set the Latin font and Chinese font in the Font option.

2. Font size and decoration

Just like fonts, don't be too fancy. In fact, there are not many levels that need to be distinguished in a resume. Is nothing more than:

The first floor: name and title (placed at the top, naturally distinguished, name can be selected in large letters, address, phone number, etc. Not modified)

The second layer: titles such as education, internship experience, extracurricular activities, personal ability, etc. (English capital letters, bold, optional big words, separated by 2px lines below)

The third layer: the name of the school, company and society (optional English capital letters, bold, standard font size)

Level 4: department and position (bold, italic and standard font size can be selected)

Level 5: Specific content/text (list by main points without modification)

This should be hierarchical enough.

The picture above is a schematic diagram. (The figure is only used to illustrate how the above five levels are arranged, and the rest are not perfect, so it is not used as an example. )

Several points for attention:

Never use italics in Chinese. English handwriting is naturally italicized and looks beautiful. If you have seen natural italic Chinese handwriting, please save the specimen to broaden my horizons and rearrange my three views.

Underscores should be avoided. Headlines can be distinguished by bold, font size and lines, and underlining is purely a horizontal knife to disturb social harmony. The words are underlined just to tell others-I'm really fine here. Let's see if it's okay. If it's really awesome and hard to see, don't underline it. If it's just that you think it tastes bad, it's actually delicious. If people read it without reading it, it's tantamount to showing others short-sightedness.

Try not to bold the text. Because bold is destined to be widely used in titles, bold has a special hierarchical meaning in resumes. Once the text appears bold, on the one hand, it completely destroys this sense of hierarchy, leading to a sharp decline in the visual effect of the whole resume, on the other hand, it sees the negative effect of underline.

3. Interval

This is too important. Don't think that you can't see the ghost in two millimeters. Maybe ghosts really can't see it … but we're not here to report to the underworld, and our resumes are not for ghosts. Inconsistent spacing is no less dazzling than italic Chinese characters.

The spacing in a resume is mainly word spacing, line spacing and paragraph spacing.

Say lines and paragraphs first.

To keep the spacing between lines and paragraphs consistent, the personal recommendation is to make a full-frame resume with a table, code the words first, and then adjust the format. I used to adjust the format first and then code words. Believe me, I will be typing soon. Removing the border should be the last step. I understand the idea that borders are annoying to me, but without borders, the whole resume will be annoying to you.

Of course, I have also seen some resumes that are tabulated and have inconsistent spacing. I'm not sure why ... I can only guess that the width and height of individual teams have been manually adjusted. If there are similar operations, we must make unified adjustments to the projects at the same level. Special note: the same spacing does not mean the same spacing, but the same spacing at the same level.

In addition, the spacing within projects should be smaller than the spacing between projects. It's like the spacing between paragraphs in a chapter is smaller than the spacing between chapters. I see a big gap between the company name and the position. Why bother?

As for word spacing, it mainly involves alignment and word count.

Alignment. I've seen both ends aligned and left aligned. One sacrificed the neatness of the right end, and the other sacrificed the unity of word spacing. I choose left alignment, and I feed myself a bag of salt. On the one hand, I hate the inconsistent spacing between words after alignment (both in Chinese and English). On the other hand, the advantages of alignment at both ends are mainly reflected in long segments. After alignment, it is square, seamless and looks cool. Resume doesn't have very long paragraphs, it's basically one or two lines, and three lines are dead, so it can't take advantage of alignment at both ends.

The number of words, I have seen that because the company or school name is too long, it is forced to reduce the spacing between words. In this seemingly helpless situation, check for abbreviations. UNESCO, the full name is really hurtful to write. Everyone is used to reading abbreviations, but they don't know the full name. Are you really afraid that HR doesn't know the abbreviations and Chinese resumes, and the huge UNESCO can't see them? This includes comments on limited companies,&; Delete the company and other suffixes if necessary. After this deletion, there should be no names that can't be written with normal spacing.

On the other hand, the name is too short to look harmonious, such as BCG. Don't write abbreviations at this time, the full name is just right.

Step 4 Punctuation

Punctuation is really a small problem. Someone will definitely despise me and even pick such a place. There is too much time ... but when you see that the thousandth symbol is a huge Chinese comma, do you have the sound of 10000 horses whizzing by?

So the most important thing is that Chinese and English punctuation marks should go back to their homes and not run around. Chinese resumes are punctuated in Chinese except for established symbols such as thousands of symbols. Don't have any Chinese punctuation in your English resume. English punctuation should be followed by spaces, not Chinese.

There is another place that is easily overlooked, that is, the end of the sentence. It is customary to use punctuation at the end of a sentence, but the common single lines and dots in a resume make the punctuation at the end of a sentence a bit redundant. Personally, I suggest not to add it, but if you really want to add it, then add it all. Is there a line after the previous line? It looks terrible.

Finally, pay attention to the level of punctuation. The most obvious three levels are ",,; Needless to say, pause. If you want to express two meanings in one sentence, and each meaning is more than one sentence, don't use commas in the middle; Wait a minute.

Deeply involved in XXXX project, collecting, sorting and keeping data, documents, reports and meeting minutes in the background, which improved the work efficiency of the team. At the same time, interviews, sampling and questionnaire surveys were conducted in the front line of business, and problems in the scheme were found in time and fed back to the later control department.

5. spelling and grammar

Spelling is a one-vote veto, and not many people have seen big typos in their resumes. This problem basically appears in the English part. I have seen Chinese typos several times, and there is no better way than dragging out X.

Because Word has spell checking function, it is not easy to make spelling mistakes, but I suggest you not be too confident. You never know why Word missed a typo and didn't tell you. I have seen many typos, which are common in long words, such as accommodation. This word is written with eyes closed. I've never written it correctly. I just wrote it once and made a mistake again ... but I never close my eyes when writing a resume. As for the university, I won't say anything.

Compared with typos, typos are more common, such as Mayor in Finance, who at first glance thought it was the mayor of France. Another example is the principle of association, that is, Tao becomes flesh.

Compared with all the above, improper use is more common. Among the resumes I read these days, the most typical one is the minister. Yes, minister. Although I don't know why the internal composition of the association is called "Ministry" instead of "Ministry", the fact is that there are many ministers. This minister is not another. Every time I see the minister on my resume, I want to say that you are in the wrong place. Use the common word Leader or Head.

Grammatically, they are all from China, so it's no big deal that they can't write so-called pure English. Chinglish looks friendly (for what reason). But it is not good for middle schools or even primary schools to have grammar problems. Inconsistent tenses, inconsistent singular and plural numbers, and incomplete sentence components (GMAT error correction) are very hurtful, especially for companies that require high English. This kind of problem can be completely avoided as long as you are careful.

To be more reliable, please invite a few people to exchange resumes and read them carefully. Everyone has a leak, but everyone has a different leak point.

The most reliable way is to find a reliable native speaker of English. Reliability is very important. Because I have seen it and misspelled it ... I have seen it myself, which is beyond my imagination.

6. Content arrangement

No matter how good potatoes are, they are not delicious if they are not fried in Zou Tao. Good content must be arranged before it can be reflected. As far as modules are concerned, a student resume is nothing more than information such as academic qualifications, internship experience and extracurricular activities.

6. 1 educational background

It's best to put it first. For students at school, the school itself is a big amulet. For companies that hate schools, this one is almost enough. As for what is written in the academic qualifications, it is generally schools, colleges, majors/degrees, grades, courses and honors. The most sensitive thing is grades. I have seen four ways to write grades: general GPA, core GPA, single subject grade and no grade. The first and fourth types are recommended. The trick of the middle two is to tell others that what I haven't written down is not very good. However, if your core professional courses are really good, but your comprehensive grades are ruined by a bunch of inexplicable political courses and excellent elective courses, it is barely acceptable for the company you want to apply for to be obsessed with your grades. But as far as I can see, most companies are not obsessed with their achievements, so as long as they are not too low (below GPA 3/4, etc. ), write casually.

As for whether there is honor in the academic qualifications, I did, because there is not enough space, so I didn't list it separately. If there is enough space to list them separately, and these honors carry weight in themselves, it doesn't hurt to list them separately. Common honors include scholarship, three good, excellent, X award and so on. If you get too many honors, it is recommended to choose carefully. Scholarships and miyoshi are omnipotent. All kinds of competition awards should be focused, especially those unrelated to majors, such as vocal music, photography and dance. And it is best to put it in personal interests rather than professional content.

6.2 Internship experience

I have seen two extremes, too many (seven or eight) and too few (one). Too little is understandable. If you haven't done it, you haven't done it. Do it for others and bring your classmates' internships. Try not to do such a thing. Support reasonable handling and oppose artistic creation. The only way to deal with too little is to dig deep, exhaust everything done in the internship and give one thing as much meaning as possible.

For example, there is only one big four audit in the internship section.

Description is as follows: Participate in the year-end audit of XXX, and be responsible for drawing certificates, obtaining evidence, writing papers, proofreading reports and sorting out documents.

Improve it:

Participate in the year-end audit of XXX20 12.

Responsible for extracting accounting vouchers, issuing confirmation letters to banks and other related enterprises, and checking the authenticity and integrity of customer accounting records.

Participate in the preparation of working papers on monetary funds, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and other accounting subjects, and proofread the final audit report.

Responsible for the daily file arrangement and preservation of the team (please write down the meeting minutes if any) to improve the work efficiency of the team.

If you don't think it's enough, write down the improvement of personal quality by this internship.

This style of writing is not necessarily good, just for example, by digging deep into the content and turning one line into several lines, so that the resume can get rid of the feeling of wilderness.

Another way to deal with too little is to increase some professional activities outside the internship, such as XXX training, XXX summer camp, XXX visit experience and so on. , provided that these activities are directly related to the application. It doesn't make sense to apply for a financial institution and show a disappearing training tour. At the same time, remember to change the "internship experience" in the title to "business practice" (English can be written as ProfessionalExperience) and so on.

On the contrary, the dense CBD arrangement also makes people cry. Personally, I think it is enough to write at most four internships, and if there are more, I won't get extra points-if I don't reduce the points. On the one hand, there are too many internships, on the other hand, it always makes people wonder whether every internship is an edge ball. Pick a few internships that you have done the most, are most relevant to the position you are applying for, and can be answered seriously no matter how the interviewer asks.

6.3 Extracurricular activities

There are too many kinds, and the general principle is "show your ability". It is best to have a professional activity. Of course, you can write about entertainment activities, but make sure that your experience can reflect your specific ability, just forget the kind you play. Public welfare activities are very good, write at will. Do not comment on political activities. As for the content, you can refer to the description of the internship experience above.

Some resumes have too many extracurricular activities, and some activities only have names without specific instructions. I personally don't recommend this practice. Don't think that extracurricular activities are less important than internships, just put your name there. Unless the whole world knows about this activity (Olympic volunteers), just writing names is almost as effective as not writing them. Even for Olympic volunteers, their posts and work contents are colorful, and there are many things that need to be elaborated.

6.4 Other information

This is a big pit, everything can be loaded, but in general, it is loaded with language, technical ability, hobbies and honors. The importance of language is self-evident. Most of them are English, such as CET-4 and CET-6, TOEFL, IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge Business, GMAT, GRE (this is actually not a language test ...). Just choose the one with the most beautiful score. It's good to be outside, but make sure you really have two brushes, or don't write casually. For example, after studying French for a semester, if you can learn basic conversation at most, you dare to write a primary French class. Even if you have only studied for two semesters, the interviewer can completely blow you up.

Technical ability and hobby are eight immortals crossing the sea. Hobbies and hobbies It is best not to write books, movies, travel and the like, which has no added value. Save a line and write something else. Of course, if you write a book yourself (even if it is not published), make a movie (even if it is a micro-movie) and go to a magical place (jungle science, desert hiking, Antarctic exploration, space travel, forgetting Tibet), everything is another matter. Therefore, the principle is: there is nothing you can't write, but when you write it, you must make it attractive enough.

6.5 Finally, talk about the consistency between Chinese and English.

It is true that English streamline characters are much longer than our square characters, so there is inevitably not enough space when translating Chinese into English. There are usually two ways, one is to cut off part of the content, and the other is to simplify the text. Most of the time, I see the first one.

It's okay to cut the content, but don't destroy the soul of the original content. If the original content is "cooperate with the relevant personnel of the marketing department to write a 20,000-word consumer preference research report", the English language should not be "cooperate with the institutions from the marketing department to create a 20,000-word report". Because the focus of Chinese expression should be the content of the report-consumer preferences, no one cares how many words you wrote this report, who wrote it and what you wrote. Therefore, English should be cut, and partners or words should also be cut, instead of cutting consumer preferences.

In fact, the real problem often lies in the second point-streamlining. Tracing back to the source, it is probably related to the English training we received since childhood. At that time, the so-called good English writing was that the words were difficult and the sentence patterns were complicated. A beautiful girl can write a phrase clearly. In order to show that she can use clauses, she must write a beautiful girl, and then show that she can grow a word, an exotic beautiful girl.

First, don't use long sentences. Second, don't use exaggerated adjectives in your resume. Use only simple structures and powerful verbs. Omit the subject and repeated parts. If you can use one word, don't use phrases, such as Beijing and Beijing City. Don't wake up unless you have to. This can basically control the length of English and make its content consistent with Chinese.

Another source of inconsistency is carelessness. Typical: I changed my Chinese resume and forgot my English. Don't think that no one reads English. It doesn't matter if you are sloppy.

7, miscellaneous

Don't use spaces indiscriminately. July 2009, M & ampa, 2012-2013, don't you think it's strange ... you can avoid careful inspection.

The margins should be symmetrical. Up and down asymmetry is barely enough, and left and right asymmetry is fatal.

Alignment. The whole resume must be aligned on the left and right (a great advantage of using tables). The same level in the middle should be aligned, for example, all school names, company names and club names should be aligned, all times should be aligned, all places should be aligned, and all bullets should be aligned.

PDF format. don't send the files generated directly by Word to others. Compare yourself and see which one is better.

Photos. State-owned enterprises basically ask for release, even life photos, and do not comment on this interest. Foreign companies generally have no photo requirements for resumes. If it is shown, it will probably only entertain the public (not in a derogatory sense, or simply let viewers have some fun in their tired work), which will not help recruit people. Once you decide to put it, you'd better take a standard photo, generally chest-high, with a dark (blue/black) coat and a light (white is the safest) color, and don't wear a strange tie (Niu Gensheng's green cows are definitely not good, dark blue and crimson are safer). Forget the bust, the resume photo won't be very big, and you can still see your face clearly with another bust.

Paper. I don't know much about paper products, unprofessionally speaking, I just need a large gram of A4 paper to go to the printing shop (too unprofessional ...). The personal feeling of hard paper shell is unnecessary.

Cover letter. A big guy who is independent of his resume. Just a little bit here; This is a letter, not just a few paragraphs piled there. If you don't know the format of a standard business letter, look it up online. It's also in the vault guide. You can tell at a glance.
