He has served as vice president of Henan Normal University, president of Luoyang Normal University, secretary of the Party Committee, president of Henan University of Science and Technology and deputy secretary of the Party Committee, and is now secretary of the Party Committee of Henan University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Committee of Atomic and Molecular Physics of Chinese Physical Society, vice chairman of Henan Physical Society and adjunct professor of Sichuan University.

On 201May 2 1 day, the Organization Department of Henan Provincial Party Committee appointed Sun Jinfeng as Party Secretary of Henan University of Science and Technology.
He is engaged in physics teaching and theoretical research on the collision between atoms and molecules, and has presided over two national natural science foundation projects and several provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, namely, the study on additive rules and quasi-empirical formulas of the collision between high-energy electrons and molecules and the theoretical research on the collision between electrons and atoms in laser fields. He has published more than 20 papers1in academic journals such as Phys.Rev.A, J.Phys.B and Eur. Phys.J.D, Phys.Lett.A, China Journal of Physics and Physics, in which 59 papers were included by SCI and EI.
1997 won the third prize of excellent teachers of Ceng Xianzi Education Foundation, and 1997 won the second prize and the first prize of provincial teaching achievements of Henan higher education in 2005. In 2005 and 2006, he won the first prize of scientific and technological achievements of Henan Provincial Education Department and the third prize of scientific and technological achievements of Henan Province.
