1982- 1985 worked as a research intern in Kunming Hydropower Survey and Design Institute of Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, and participated in hydrological survey and design of several large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects such as Tianshengqiao, Lubuge, Manwan and Chaishitan;
1988-2000 worked in Yunnan Institute of Geography and served as an associate researcher and researcher. Director of the Research Office of Environmental Evolution and Sustainable Development, deputy director of the Institute of Geography, and editor-in-chief of yunnan geographic environment research magazine. Among them, 1997 was funded by the American Academy of Sciences to study the sustainable development of international rivers and TVA model at the University of Memphis;
From July 2000 to 2006, he worked in School of Life Sciences of Yunnan University and Asia International River Center, and served as professor, supervisor, vice president and director of the center.
Since 2006, he has served as Dean of the Institute of Natural Sciences of Yunnan University and Director of the Asian International River Center.
