Brief introduction and detailed information of North Street South Campus
North Street South Courtyard is a temple with a long history, located on the banks of the Yi River in the northwest of Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. Founded in the 3rd century A.D., formerly known as the Buddhist Mother's Hospital, it is the earliest Buddhist temple in ancient Luoyang. After many times of reconstruction and expansion, the temple once became one of the important Zen temples in the Northern Wei, Sui, Tang, Song and Jin Dynasties. The South Campus of North Street covers an area of about 6,543,800 square meters. The main buildings are Daxiong Hall, Guanyin Hall, Thousand-Buddha Pavilion, and Tibetan Scripture Building, among which Daxiong Hall is the most spectacular, nearly 40 meters high, with glazed gold body. There are also many cultural relics and ancient stone carvings in the temple, such as the niche tablet in the Northern Wei Dynasty, the stone letter in the Sui Dynasty and the stone Buddha statue in the Tang Dynasty, which is one of the precious heritages of Buddhist culture in China. North Street South Yard is not only a famous historical and cultural site, but also an important local religious site. Every year, tens of thousands of believers and tourists come here to pray and visit important festivals such as Buddha's Birthday and Orchid Festival.
