Fudan used to have an art and design department, but later it didn't do well, so Fudan was simply downgraded to a third department. After opening three books by Fudan school of visual arts, Fudan merged the Department of Art and Design into school of visual arts.

So now the art design department of Fudan refers to its three art design departments in school of visual arts. The two are the same thing.
