1979, with the approval of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education, the first undergraduate major of investigation in China was born in Southwest University of Political Science and Law. 1985 set up the department of investigation on the basis of investigation specialty, 1999 set up the institute of criminal investigation, which is the first undergraduate college of Southwest University of Political Science and Law.

Great progress has been made in the specialty construction of the college. In 2000, the specialty of criminal science and technology was added on the basis of the specialized course of judicial expertise offered by 1986, the specialty of public security was added in 2002, and the specialty of economic crime investigation was added in 2005. Since 2004, entrusted by the General Political Department, our hospital has begun to recruit national defense students majoring in investigation, criminal science and technology and public security. In the same year, entrusted by the Supreme People's Procuratorate, a special class of duty crime investigation was established under the investigation discipline. According to the record of the State Council Academic Degree Office, there are two master's disciplines, investigation and police science, under the first-level discipline of law. Mainly for the national public security organs, state security organs, procuratorial organs, customs public security bureau, border inspection, civil aviation, transportation and railway departments, military security departments, investigation and appraisal departments of courts and judicial administrative organs, public security management, teaching and scientific research and other departments to train criminal investigation, economic crime investigation, public security management, technical appraisal investigation, technical practice talents and teaching and scientific research talents.
