What is the postgraduate entrance examination experience of English translation (professional degree) in Jinan University?
I graduated from two engineering colleges in Southwest China, majoring in English. I passed TEM-4 and three exams. In short, although I rank high in my class, my English is generally on the high side and I am not very good at competitions. Apply for English translation major in Jida University, and plan to enroll. Before, I thought, if I am lucky enough to go ashore, I will save more luck, write experience stickers for my brothers and sisters, share some information and take fewer detours!

First, choose a school.

Choosing a school is to sharpen the knife and cut the wood by mistake. Only by choosing a school that suits you can the targeted review be more efficient in the future. There are three steps in choosing a school: first, determine whether you want to enter a more professional language school or a well-known 985, 2 1 1 school; Secondly, determine several alternative institutions according to their favorite areas; Finally, look at the real questions of these institutions, their directions and examination contents, and see which institutions are good at or interested in the examination contents, so as to avoid blind school selection, blind review and inefficiency because they don't understand the institutions applying for the exam.

I applied for the translation major of Jinan University based on these three choices. Is a 2 1 1 college, located in Guangzhou, with many employment opportunities. The translation major of Jinan University is also a hot major in recent years. The enrollment ratio and real questions will be announced with high transparency. The real questions can be used as a reference for review, and most of the translations are literary translations, which I am more interested in. The encyclopedia exam is routine and relatively safe. If you are hesitant about several choices, you can look at the school admission rate and real questions, and review while making choices, which will not delay the review progress, because there are many books that must be read for entry, such as 12 days, yellow pages, three textbooks and so on. The school was decided a few days before the registration. After all, I would rather make a decision later than make a decision that I regret.

Jinan University began to recruit 65 candidates for the class of 2020, of which 53 were recruited by unified recruitment and 0/2 were exempted from examination. Later, in response to the national policy, we expanded the enrollment by 15 students. So the number of places is still relatively large. The enrollment ratio of Jinan University is between one and ten, which is a little competitive, but not so exaggerated. The specific enrollment ratio over the years can be found in official website or one's postgraduate entrance examination.

Second, about the initial test.

1, political review:

I started reviewing politics in September, but I didn't allocate much time to politics. I only watched a few Ma Yuan classes in Xu Tao this month, and I began to review systematically after returning to school at the end of September. In terms of data, I did the topic 1000 Xiao Xiurong's politics in the early stage, and did Xiao Si and Xiao Ba in the sprint stage. In addition, I also push my leg sister to sprint and recite the manual. 10 I watched it for a few days, and the knowledge framework was much clearer, and the correct rate of doing the questions was also improved.

You can read a book/video first and wait for the knowledge to cool down for a period of time (for example, two or three hours) before doing the problem. The test effect is better. 1000 political questions are probably done by 60% or 70%. At first, you actually used brush paper to prevent the exercise book from being too dazzling, but in fact, you only used brush paper to do it once, and it will not be easy to review it later. So you can do the questions in the book directly by brushing once or twice, which saves time, effort and intuition.

When the exam is approaching, the simulated multiple-choice questions given by mainstream postgraduate teachers can be found out and done. In addition to some hot test sites will overlap, you can also look at the propositional perspectives of different teachers. Due to the limited time, I only made four sets of test papers for Xiao four shaw and Leg Sister, looked at my mistakes repeatedly, and reviewed the relevant knowledge points in the sprint recitation manual. In the subjective part, I suggest telling a teacher from beginning to end. At that time, I actually recited the ideas of other teachers to answer big questions. My feeling is that I was confused at the beginning of answering questions, so I personally think it is good to choose a teacher to follow me. Personally, I think Sister Leg teaches people to fish as well as to fish. When and how long it takes for politics to start depends on individual circumstances, but those with high expectations can take advantage of the summer vacation to study basic knowledge, establish a knowledge framework, and sprint to review key contents and fuzzy and error-prone knowledge points later.

2. Translate the master's English

The first is the English-Chinese translation of entries. I have accumulated some from reading the government work report in the early stage, and I have also memorized some commonly used words in English translation. However, in the later stage, I felt that some entries were older, so I didn't continue. After reciting the yellow book English-Chinese translation dictionary, add a few more. Hot words are also the key content of entry review. You can collect them from China Daily hot words, Min Lu hot words or yourself, and you will also take the slang test, but the number of questions will not be much. You can only watch one at ordinary times and accumulate one.

Jinan University's translation will be a little literary, and novels and essays may be tested in the exam. However, considering that non-literary translation was occasionally taken in previous exams, we should simply start with political and economic texts so as not to dampen confidence from the beginning. At first, I used Brother Five's Breakthrough in English-Chinese Translation in Twelve Days. This book should be more suitable for beginners. If you have a solid foundation, a certain translation practice and your own translation methods, you can directly transition to the 90-day master of CATTI's second-and third-level translation by Teacher Han Gang, and then you can use Zhuang Yichuan's A Concise Course in English-Chinese Translation. As the name implies, the text is concise, the types of translated texts involved are more diverse, and it can also be combined with a translation theory book that I am used to. Usually practice both literary translation and non-literary translation, no matter what type of exam, you will not be caught off guard.

As for literary translation, as xu teacher said, "If you want to draw a pig, you must first know what it looks like", and to translate literary works, you must know how these novels and essays describe characters, images and expressions. This paper analyzes Zhang Peiji's English version of Selected Modern Prose of China with an appreciative eye, and learns some common and useful expressions. You can use the Yellow Book and the representative prose 108 when practicing, and use them in your own translation, and make changes according to the reference translation, and there will be qualitative changes. In the early stage of translation practice, you can practice one day of English-Chinese translation, one day of Chinese-English translation, and limited time and quantitative training. However, it is essential to modify and compare the reference translations, so as to find out your own problems and improve your translation ability. In addition, we should consciously review our exercises in time. We can shorten the translation space or adopt visual translation to keep the feeling.

3, English translation foundation:

This course has always been the focus. Translation every day, it is very important to keep the touch. I have prepared a very big and thick notebook, and I will fold a little space on one side of each page as a place to supplement my translation knowledge or words. Translation is to write every other line, which is convenient for correcting mistakes. At first, we should pay more attention to quality rather than practice. We would rather spend more time revising our translation and find out where our translation is wrong. Remember to sum up your own translation methods and skills. I read Twelve Days in Brother Five for the first time. As an introductory translation preparation book, it is worth recommending. Teacher Zhuang Yichuan's A Concise Course in English-Chinese Translation contains many basic translation theories and classic translation texts, each of which is worth taking time to translate and think about.

We should also spend time reading government work reports every day and accumulate various corresponding expressions, because there are many specific collocations and expressions in political and economic texts, and it will be more convenient to translate such texts by reading more and remembering more. As for literary translation, I have been focusing on literary translation before Jinan University, so I have been reading Zhang Peiji's prose. Because I feel that if I want to memorize teacher Zhang's translation completely, the workload is huge and a bit rigid, so I usually make my translation simple+remember the difficulties of the teacher's translation, which is more flexible and efficient. But the method varies from person to person, and it is most important to find the method that suits you. Usually, the text of my own translation practice basically comes from the real questions of various schools, two translation textbooks and the real questions of Jinan University. I think we should involve all kinds of text translation when examining translation, because translation is a subject involving all aspects.

Followed by the entry. Entries can be accumulated slowly in translation, and there is also an entry booklet for yellow book and two supporting entry brochures. Moreover, many bloggers and official WeChat accounts update their entries every day, which can be accumulated slowly.

The entries in this exam this year are a bit biased, and there are not many popular works. There will be some translations of warnings and slang, and more types of entries should be accumulated at ordinary times. English and Chinese literature is biased towards foreign literature, and there are many descriptions of appearances and movements that need to be translated. Chinese-English translation is a Chinese dream, which is different from previous literary translation and belongs to political and economic texts, which is why I mentioned earlier that all kinds of texts should be translated. Because the teacher's mind will change.

Fourth, Chinese writing and encyclopedic knowledge:

This exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and 5 noun explanations, an applied essay and a big composition. Among them, the multiple-choice question has one point and the noun explanation has five points, so we should pay attention to the noun explanation. However, the examination of noun explanation is relatively routine, and it is still possible to recite the relevant materials of noun explanation. But encyclopedia is my latest subject, and it is also the most lacking subject. It is normal for players without memory to forget their backs. Although my review process is not without waves, and my personal state is relatively calm as a whole, my mood will fluctuate greatly in the face of encyclopedia, especially less than a month before the exam, because the season suddenly cooled down and caught a cold, I was groggy for nearly ten days, and I just finished reciting encyclopedia, and my mood was as sad as autumn in my old capital. Some topics can be calculated by their own past accumulation, but this part of the accumulation is limited after all and needs to be continuously expanded. So the encyclopedia switches back and forth between two States: "The more you review, the more interesting you feel" and "I can't finish reciting". I feel like I'm constantly salvaging in the vast sea, so I'm not pursuing the so-called reciting, but learning more will give me more opportunities. In reviewing, we should not only grasp the main lines of literature and philosophy in the school's self-proposition, but also "salvage" the knowledge in other fields. China cultural readers, 2000 XX (literature, geography, art, etc. ) Common sense, 52mti encyclopedic knowledge and other materials in hand can be used as extracurricular books for several times.

If you explain nouns, recite a few pages of entries every day, mainly to remember the key words and be able to connect them smoothly in your own words. The entry dictionary of Huangshu Encyclopedia is not complete enough, so it is better to build a knowledge framework by yourself. When you encounter unfamiliar concepts, you should make good use of the network, and your own search can deepen your understanding and memory. If you are tired of learning, just turn out the Li Guozheng Encyclopedia to review a section, sort out the knowledge, and use some fragments after dinner to brush the questions and relax.

Start practicing writing about a month before the exam. I must practice every type of question in practical writing. At least I need to know what the format is. I have studied some practical writing courses before, and I have probably seen Xia Xiaoming's practical writing, so I summed up my own templates and exercises. A big composition depends more on one's writing ability. After all, everyone has been writing for so many years, so we should consciously accumulate writing materials and write one or two articles regularly every week, so that we can have deeper ideas and show our critical thinking ability. When the review time is tight, you can conceive a framework, but you must write with correct handwriting and neat layout.

Third, the second interview preparation experience

This year is an online re-examination, and the written test has been cancelled. So I focused on oral English. The review focuses on self-introduction questions, translation theories and books, English-Chinese translation, interpretation, visual translation and some shorthand symbols.

Last year, I prepared for my second interview and read an Introduction to Translation Studies-Theory and Practice by Mundi.

However, the review time was limited at that time. When I read it, I felt that there were too many translation theories, and I didn't understand their meanings and differences well after reading it, only a vague impression. So this year, I first reviewed the translator and his translation theory in Ye Yinan's Advanced English-Chinese Translation Course, watched some videos about translation theory, summarized some common translation theories, and roughly understood their meanings and differences. After reading many papers related to translation theories, I can learn more about these translation theories. And in this process, translate these words into translation and memorize them. I think this method is very suitable for breaking translation theories one by one.

I seldom involved in interpretation before. I think this time there is only an interview, and the proportion of interpretation must be very heavy. Therefore, I watched Han Gang's basic interpretation course in the mile. Through repeated study, I have accumulated some commonly used shorthand symbols and exercised my listening comprehension. In the future, I will also listen to some number interpretation exercises every day to strengthen my sensitivity to numbers.

Be natural and graceful on the day of the second interview, and don't be too nervous, otherwise it will affect the performance later. There were five teachers at that time, and the interview time for each was 20 minutes. Time passed quickly and the teachers were very kind. At that time, because they didn't recognize the teacher's voice, the teacher patiently repeated the question, so don't be nervous. The topics I can remember are all about self-introduction; Some questions about COVID 19: Ask me which translation theory books I have read and tell me a translation theory I know; Translation between English and Chinese is not difficult. The teacher will tell you in advance that some technical terms are translated. The relationship between machine translation and human translation; The qualities that researchers should possess.

Fourth, write it at the end.

In a word, the postgraduate entrance examination is a protracted war, during which both endurance and pressure resistance are tested. But no matter what happens, persistence is the most important thing. Make and complete a detailed and feasible plan for yourself at every stage every day. Only in this way can we make progress day by day. When I was preparing for the exam last year, some of my classmates had already started their postgraduate entrance examination. Some students set foot on the society and found jobs. It seems that I am the only one standing still. I feel anxious and self-doubt from time to time. I'm afraid it's empty, but it's more consistent persistence and self-confidence. Looking back on this period of time, I still don't regret my original decision. I will never forget it, and there will be bad consequences. I hope everyone can be admitted to their favorite school!
