There are seven core journals (or source journals) selection systems in the core of Peking University. These core systems are as follows: The core catalogue of Peking University is selected every three years. At present, the latest edition of Peking University Core Catalogue (2020 Edition) is the ninth edition of Peking University Publishing House in May, 2002/KLOC-0, which consists of seven parts, namely: ① philosophy, sociology, politics and law; 2 economy; ③ Culture, education and history; ④ Natural science; ⑤ Medicine and health; ⑥ Agricultural science; ⑦ Industrial technology.

The core of Peking University is the academic definition of a certain kind of periodical, a classification of periodical grades. Its goal is: China academic journals. The core of Peking University is the periodicals divided according to many factors such as periodical influence factors.
The core of Peking University was appraised by Peking University Library in conjunction with a number of authoritative experts in academic circles, and the libraries of several universities in China were determined according to the citation rate, reprint rate and abstract rate of periodicals. It has been widely recognized by academic circles that the standards for identifying core journals are also formulated by some university libraries, and the evaluation and access standards of each school library are also different. As far as influence is concerned, its ranking is one of the more authoritative divisions of its kind. It is the most authoritative academic influence besides NTU core and China Science Citation Database (cscd).
