Henan is one of the main birthplaces of the Chinese nation, the hometown of Huangdi, the ancestor of the Chinese nation and the ancestor of humanity, and the hometown of Zhang Zhongjing, the medical sage. Since ancient times, the Central Plains medical forest is prosperous, famous doctors come forth in large numbers, Chinese medicine resources are rich, and the mass base is deep, which is an important birthplace of Chinese medicine culture.
Founded in 1958, Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the earlier institutions of higher learning in China. Its predecessor was 1955, the Henan Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine founded in Kaifeng. The school is located in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, with four campuses: Longzihu Campus, Dongming Road Campus, Renmin Road Campus and Dongfeng Road Campus, covering an area of 1594.94 mu. The building area is 623,400 ㎡, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 497 million yuan. It is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Henan Province and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, a university under the National Central and Western Higher Education Revitalization Plan, a university for training scholarship students from the China Government of the Ministry of Education, a "5+3" integrated enrollment institution for Chinese medicine majors of the Ministry of Education, a national international cooperation base for Chinese medicine, a doctoral degree authorized unit and a provincial civilized unit. It is the leader and center of traditional Chinese medicine personnel training, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation in Henan Province.
Over the past 60 years, the school has developed from a single discipline of traditional Chinese medicine to a comprehensive university of traditional Chinese medicine with coordinated development of medicine, science, management, engineering and literature, covering undergraduate, postgraduate (doctor, master), international students and continuing education. At present, there are 16 hospitals (departments) such as basic medical college, pharmacy college, first clinical medical college, second clinical medical college, orthopedics and traumatology college, third clinical medical college, acupuncture and tuina college, nursing college, rehabilitation medical college, management college, foreign languages college, information technology college, international education college, continuing education college, Marxism college and sports teaching and research section. The school recruits students from 30 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas. At present, there are more than 20,000 ordinary full-time students, including doctoral and master students 1.900 and international students 1.64.
The Party Committee of the school regards party building as the basic skill of running a school and insists on promoting the high-quality development of the school with high-quality party building.
