In the history of architectural education in China, since 1927, more than ten universities, including Central University, Northeastern University, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhijiang University and Harbin Institute of Technology, have set up departments of architecture. In the early days of the People's Republic of China, eight universities (except Taiwan Province, Hongkong and Macau) set up departments of architecture (Tsinghua University, Nanjing Institute of Technology, now Southeast University, Tongji University, Tianjin University, South China University of Technology, Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Engineering, now Chongqing University, Harbin Institute of Architecture and Engineering, now Xi Institute of Metallurgical Architecture). Therefore, Tsinghua, Tongji, Southeast, Tianjin, Chongqing architecture, South China Institute of Technology, Harbin architecture and Xi architecture science and technology constitute the architectural bastions of China universities, which are difficult for other schools to break through.
