The school originated from the Mechanical Manufacturing Department of Beijing Institute of Technology founded by 19 12. After Peking University Institute of Technology's Weaving Department, Northwest Institute of Technology's Textile Department, National Beiyang University's Textile Department, Hebei Institute of Technology's Textile Department, Tianjin University's Textile Department and other school-running periods, 1958, Hebei Textile Institute of Technology was independently established in Hebei Province, which was under the management of Hebei Province.

After 1964, the school was managed by the Ministry of Textile Industry, and 1968 was renamed Tianjin Textile Vocational and Technical College. In 2000, Tianjin Textile Institute and Tianjin Economic Management Cadre College merged to form tianjin polytechnic university. In 2004, Tianjin Industrial Vocational and Technical College was merged into the school.
