It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and a national "double first-class" "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" key construction university. It is one of the first ten pilot universities in the "three-round education" comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education, ten pilot schools in the implementation of engineering education reform by the state, and one of the first pilot schools in the innovative experimental program for college students.

China Medical University in Shenyang ranks third among universities in Liaoning Province. It is a university jointly established by Liaoning Provincial People's Government, National Health and Wellness Commission and Ministry of Education. It is a key construction university of first-class universities in Liaoning Province, and has been selected as a national demonstration base for innovative talents training and a national base for introducing talents through subject innovation.
