In the early days of East China Normal University:

1951July 17, the Ministry of Education of the East China Military and Political Commission announced the establishment of East China Normal University with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the Central People's Government. The liberal arts education disciplines of Daxia University and Guanghua University have become the foundation of the new school. In August and September, the Department of Animals and Plants of Tongji University, the Department of Education of Fudan University, the Department of Music of Hujiang University and the East Asian Institute of Physical Education were merged into East China Normal University. 10 June 16, the school held its founding and opening ceremony and officially announced the establishment of East China Normal University.

When the school was first established, there were departments of education, Chinese, foreign languages, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, music, sports, etc. At the beginning of the school, there were 338 faculty members, including teachers 13 1 person and students 1032, including 698 students from all schools. During the summer vacation, 334 freshmen were put into 36 classes.
