National defense university generally refers to the National Defense University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The National Defence University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army is the highest military academy in China directly under the Central Military Commission. It is also a key construction institution of the "2 1 10 Project" of the whole army, and a comprehensive joint command university for senior vocational education of the Chinese Army.

It is directly under the leadership of the Central Military Commission, a producer in China, and is responsible for training commanding cadres of the armed forces, leading cadres at the local provincial level and cadres above the heads of central state organs, and engaging in research on strategy and national defense modernization. It is the producer of China's headquarters in the State Council and People's Republic of China (PRC).
