Biomedical engineering applies the most advanced theories and methods of science and engineering to study the phenomena and laws of human life, so its research fields are extremely extensive and there are many research directions, such as: detection and processing of biomedical signals; Medical devices; Medical imaging; Biomedical materials; Artificial organs; Biomedical manufacturing; Interventional therapy; Rehabilitation project; Telemedicine; Biochips and so on. It has a very wide range of contents in all aspects. Therefore, biomedical engineering is also one of the fields where theoretical breakthroughs and technological innovations are most likely to occur in the next few decades.
The core content of biomedical engineering, namely medical devices, has become a pillar industry in the United States. For China, which has a population of1300 million, medical devices will soon become a pillar industry in China today, when the whole society and the government begin to pay close attention to them.
Biomedical engineering specialty in Tsinghua University originated from the Department of Electrical Engineering in Tsinghua University, which was founded in 1979. With the establishment of Tsinghua University Medical College, biomedical engineering specialty was transferred to Medical College in 200 1 year, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering of Tsinghua University Medical College was established. Biomedical engineering in our school is a first-class discipline, with the right to award bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees, and has established an independent postdoctoral mobile station, which was awarded as a national key discipline in 2002.
School leaders have repeatedly indicated that they will focus on supporting the development of biomedical engineering discipline in the next few years, and strive to make the biomedical engineering discipline of our school reach the international advanced level on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of Tsinghua University (20 1 1 year).
At present, the teaching and research bases of the Department of Biomedical Engineering are mainly concentrated in the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. Recently, the school has approved the construction of a medical college building of about 40 thousand square meters as soon as possible. After the new building is completed, the Department of Biomedical Engineering will move into the building. There are five teaching laboratories in this discipline: biomedical signal detection and processing laboratory; Medical imaging and medical image processing laboratory; Medical instrument laboratory; Electrophysiology laboratory; "Tsinghua University-United States Texas Instruments (TI) Joint DSP Laboratory".
In the scientific research system, there are five laboratories in the department: biomedical signal detection and processing laboratory; Laboratory of medical engineering and health technology; Eugenics Engineering and Cognitive Science Laboratory; Medical information engineering laboratory; Human motion information detection laboratory. The department has an electrophysiological experiment shielding room, equipped with 128 EEG and ECG machines. There are about 150 microcomputers, 6 workstations, various high-grade oscilloscopes, signal sources, various electrophysiological experimental equipment and a complete DSP development system in the whole department (including laboratories).
The Department of Biomedical Engineering has a competent and famous teacher. At present, there are 1 1 teachers, most of whom have studied or worked abroad. Among them, there are 4 professors and doctoral supervisors, "Changjiang distinguished professor" 1 person from the Ministry of Education, 6 associate professors and 1 lecturer 1 person. Professors: Bai Jing, Gao Shangkai, Hu Guangshu, Ye Datian. Among them, Professor Bai Jing is the "Yangtze River distinguished professor" of the Ministry of Education. Retired professors Yang Fusheng and Ding Haishu still work in the front line of scientific research, teaching and postgraduate training. As a newly established department in Tsinghua, our teaching staff is still small, but this is the advantage of this discipline.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering has set up the undergraduate program of Biomedical Engineering.
Biomedical engineering has been widely praised by colleagues all over the country for its high-quality teaching and scientific research. In 2002, it was rated as a national key discipline. In the evaluation of the overall level of the first-level discipline carried out by the National Center for the Development of Degree and Postgraduate Education in 2002, the score of "academic reputation" of this major was 100, ranking first among similar majors in China.
At present, the main research directions of this subject are: (1) detection and processing of biomedical signals; (2) Medical images and medical image processing; (3) Modeling and simulation of physiological system; (4) Human motion and nondestructive testing; (5) Medical information and intelligent medical instruments.
This discipline has successively completed 3 national key scientific and technological projects during the Seventh Five-Year Plan and the Eighth Five-Year Plan, 3 major national natural science funds 1, 30 completed and ongoing national natural science funds, 2 completed and ongoing provincial and ministerial natural science funds1,and 6 national tenth five-year plan 863 projects (including sub-projects). Nearly 20 horizontal projects have been carried out in the past five years. Since 1995, eight scientific research projects have passed provincial and ministerial appraisal.
