Southwest University College of Literature has a long history, strong strength, excellent style of study and high reputation.

Its predecessor was the Chinese Department of Southwest Normal University. 1950, 10 In June, the National Women's Normal University and Sichuan Institute of Education merged into Southwest Normal University, and the Chinese departments of the two colleges merged into the China Department of Language and Literature, referred to as the Chinese Department. 1952 national colleges and universities were adjusted, and the Chinese Department of Chongqing University was merged into the Chinese Department of Southwest Normal University. 1956 was renamed the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and the College of Literature was established in July 2003. In July 2005, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University merged to form Southwest University. With the birth of Southwest University, the College of Literature of Southwest Normal University was renamed as the College of Literature of Southwest University, which opened a new chapter in the development of the College of Literature.

The College of Literature of Southwest University inherits the motto of "connecting the past with the future" and the university spirit of "learning from the southwest and the world", which has been passed down from generation to generation. The College of Liberal Arts has developed into a training base for teaching and scientific research talents with complete disciplines, reasonable academic echelon structure, rich teaching experience, strong teachers and fruitful scientific research results, which has an important influence in the National College of Liberal Arts.

In the long-term development and construction, the College of Literature has established a teaching and research team with strong strength and high academic level, and has a group of influential experts and academic leaders at home and abroad. College * * * has 99 faculty members, including 90 full-time teachers, 50 associate professors and 30 doctors. 68.9% of the teachers have graduate degrees. There are 6 doctoral supervisors and 25 master supervisors. According to the discipline development concept of "overall planning and coordination, highlighting key points", the college pays attention to refining direction, building a platform, forming characteristics and highlighting innovation in discipline construction, and integrates talent training, scientific research, discipline integration, team building and academic environment construction into the discipline construction system. In terms of discipline construction, there are two doctoral programs in aesthetics and Chinese language and philology (jointly established with the College of Literature), and there are doctoral programs in Chinese language and literature; It has the first-class master's degree authorization point of China Language and Literature, and enrolls master's students in literature and art, linguistics and applied linguistics, Chinese philology, China classical philology, China ancient literature, China modern and contemporary literature, comparative literature and world literature, cinematography, aesthetics, curriculum and teaching theory and fine arts. China ancient literature, China modern and contemporary literature, Chinese philology and aesthetics are four key disciplines in Chongqing.

The college has formed a complete talent training system. As of September 2007, there were 362 undergraduates 178 1 person, 4 doctoral students and 3 foreign students. The college has four departments: Chinese language and literature (normal), Chinese language and literature (non-normal), Chinese international education and film and television art, and four undergraduate majors: Chinese language and literature (normal), Chinese international education and drama, and film and television literature. Chinese Language and Literature (Normal School) and Chinese International Education are normal schools, which mainly train excellent teachers for middle schools and have professional advantages in teacher education. Chinese language and literature (non-normal) is a non-normal major, which mainly provides graduate students for the College of Literature of Southwest University, and most graduates take postgraduate examinations. Drama, film and television literature is a non-normal major, which mainly trains film and television drama workers and other news and publishing professionals.

At present, the College has seven research institutions: Wu Mi Research Center, China Poetics Research Center (merged with New Poetry College), Aesthetics Research Institute, Southwest Film and Television Culture Education and Research Center, Narrative Literature Research Institute, China Calligraphy Research Institute and China Education Research Institute.

The college has strong scientific research strength and rich teaching resources. The Confucius Institute, which was established in cooperation with Khon Kaen University in Thailand, has developed well and has become a model Confucius Institute in Thailand. The College has signed cooperation agreements with three universities in Thailand, established overseas practice bases, and sent more than 20 students to practice overseas every year.
