Keio University is a private university founded by Japanese thinker Fukuzawa Yukichi and one of the top private universities in Tokyo, Japan. Keio University and Waseda University are called "private schools in Japan" together. Its predecessor was "Lan Xue Shu", which was founded in 1858. It was a private school that spread western natural science during the Edo period. In 2023, QS World University ranked 197, and Asian universities ranked 46th (Tongji University ranked 48th).

Keio University has six campuses, headquartered in Tokyo Port Area, and Tokyo has always been ranked first among the best student cities in QS.
