Boston University (BU), founded in 1839, is a world-class research university with a long history and the third largest private university in the United States. Its main campus is located on the Charles River in downtown Boston, across the river from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while the medical school campus is located in Changmu Medical District in the south of Boston.
