Dar es Salaam (Swahili: Dar es Salaam) means "Port of Peace" in Swahili. Former capital of Tanzania (the plan to move the capital to Thomas at most is in progress, and foreign embassies in Tanzania are still in Dar es Salaam), the largest city and port, the national economic and cultural center, an important port in East Africa, and the capital of Dar es Salaam district.
Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's former political, economic, cultural and national transportation center, and many important railways in Tanzania extend inland from here. Two-thirds of the country's import and export materials have to be distributed here, and at the same time, it has obtained convenient sea passages for parts of neighboring Congo (DRC) and two landlocked countries, Rwanda and Burundi.
The city has developed cultural and educational undertakings. There are Dar es Salaam University, technical college, several libraries and research institutes, as well as the famous national museum and tropical zoo.
The city has a concentric structure, with a commercial center, government agencies and embassies in the east, residential areas and cultural areas in the north and west, port areas and railway stations in the south, and two industrial areas in the northwest and southwest. East and northeast of the city are seaside tourist areas.
