Jinan University is a comprehensive university approved by Shandong Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education. It is a key construction university in Shandong Province, the first batch of famous universities in Shandong Province to train applied talents, and the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education.

Jinan University, formerly known as Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry, was founded in 1948. From June 5438 to October 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry and Jinan United University merged to form Jinan University.

In April of 20001year, the former Jinan Civil Affairs School of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the former Shandong Materials School merged into Jinan University. From June 5438 to February 2007, the discipline authorized by the Master of Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences was merged into Jinan University.
