The school's predecessor was Changchun Institute of Industrial Accounting and Statistics founded by the former Ministry of Industry of Northeast People's Government 1949, which trained the first batch of industrial accounting and statistics talents for new China. The school has changed its name several times in the process of national development and the changes of the times. 1983 was renamed Jilin Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. 1987 With the approval of the former State Education Commission, the former Jilin University of Technology, Jilin Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Changchun Foreign Languages Institute and Changchun Vocational College merged to form Changchun University.
